Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We have received numerous inquiries asking for assistance in response to Hurricane Sandy.
We will be working tirelessly in the coming weeks assisting with the clean up and repair of artwork affected by the storm system. If you have incurred damage and need assistance evaluating your artwork, our team is ready to help and we will be making on-site evaluations throughout the week.
Due to a Verizon phone outage, our voicemail is not working properly. The best way to contact us is by phone during our office hours Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm, or by email at: info@alvarezfas.com
Though you are likely aware of what steps you should take, here is some helpful advice if you are beginning to deal with damage:
Documentation: Developing a Condition Assessment Report
* Prepare a visual record showing the scope of the damage. You can use annotated photographs or a narrated videotape taken before the cleanup begins.
* Create an inventory. DO NOT THROW AWAY MATERIALS AT WILL. Many items may prove their value as the surrounding restoration or rehabilitation projects proceed.
* Remove all artwork from frames that appear wet or damp and place between clean blotters to remove moisture.
* Remove all plastic wrapping from packages in case there is moisture inside.
* Use the gathered information to have a team of preservation professionals develop a prioritized plan of stabilization, repair, and restoration.
