Notre Dame has easiest road in four-team race to BCS title game
The Washington Post ^ | Sunday, November 4, 2012 | John Feinstein

NBC —the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company — aired “Rudy” for the 5,388th time on Saturday night. This is the movie that still gives some people chills, the ultimate Little Guy Who Did story, backed by the playing of the Notre Dame fight song 468 times.

No doubt NBC picked the first Saturday in November because it knew the Fighting Irish were playing an awful opponent earlier in the day, one that had started its season by losing to Youngstown St. Somehow, Pittsburgh almost ruined the evening for all the Irish fans before losing, 29-26, in triple overtime.

Notre Dame won because Pitt place kicker Kevin Harper pushed a 33-yard field goal wide right in the second overtime. Naturally, Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly talked about how much his team had “overcome” to win.

He’s right: His team overcame playing a bad football game and got lucky it was playing a bad football team.

And yet, it doesn’t matter: Notre Dame is 9-0 and remains one of four in contention to win the national championship.

They could barely beat Pitt.

Alabama has some tough games but should be able to go undefeated. If they, K State, or Oregon go undefeated, don’t see how those 3 aren’t ranked above an undefeated Notre Dame.

Because they are Notre Dame, and have always been good at politics.

This reminds me of when Hawaii was undefeated. A lot of people thought Hawaii should play LSU for the BCS title. Instead Hawaii played Georgia. Georgia kicked the crap out of Hawaii. NO ONE will ever convince me that there is a tougher conference then the SEC.

Oregon will be #2 if they win out. They still get a top 10 Oregon State, Top 15 or so Stanford and Top 25 or so UCLA/USC...these are computer rankings. They will STAY #2 in the human polls, and get a bump in the computer ranking.

KSTATE only has Texas left to do them any good.

The REAL nightmare scenario for SEC haters? Oregon loses to OState, Kstate loses to Texas, ND loses to USC, Bama wins out beating Georgia and Florida torches FSU.

#1 Bama vs #2 Florida for the title.

Talk about some crying...

Alabama getting by LSU @ LSU holds more water than anything the Irish have done so far. I’m not an Alabama fan but facts are facts.

Eye agree....and ND will get trounced by USC. They hung well with Oregon and Barkley and their WR’s are a tad better than Pitt.

I want to see Oregon's offense wreak havoc on the touted Alabama defense.

The Pac 12 plays Pop Warner football compared to the SEC.
No team that gives up 51 points to another team has a defense. There is more to football than playing run and gun with other teams to see who can score the most points.
LSU beat Oregon last year and Oregon was better last year than they are this year. If not for a late score LSU would have beaten them by 20 points. Like last year, Oregon is overrated. Every team in the weak Pac 12 is worse than they were last year. Alabama’s defense would dominate Oregon. If Alabama runs the table they will play another undefeated team for the title. ND or KS State, but not Oregon. A one loss Georgia team would play them before an undefeated Oregon tam. The reason? See my comments above about strength of conference.

Oregon is overrated.

So is Alabama! Oregon would shred the Bama defense.

None of this matters, if Notre Dame goes undefeated the powers that be will ensure that they play in the national championship. They have the largest and most nationwide fan base of all the teams. The BCS will be rigged to show Notre Dame as number 2. I have as much faith in the integrity of the BCS tabulation as I do in Chicago vote counting.

There aren't any dominate college teams this year. The last one I held out for was Oregon. The Ducks rolled over everybody until USC to whom they gave up, what, 40+ points? The greatest story in college football will explode across the front pages of websites cross America this weekend. Indiana University plays Wisconsin at Bloomington, IN. IU is in second place with a 2-3 (4-5) record, behind the Badgers' 3-2 record. The two teams ahead of us, Ohio State and PSU are bowl-ineligible. If IU can beat Bucky Badger then they have PSU and Purdue left on the schedule. Split those two games and IU is in the Big Ten championship game. Next stop? Rose Bowl!

GO IU!

I was surprised our QB played so well against Bama. By far his best SEC performance yet. Damn 2 minute defense did us in. But Alabama is a great team and I hope these joke conferences don’t win a Championship over the SEC.

Congrats on the win.

John Feinstein is a classic anti-Catholic bigot whose hatred of Notre Dame is well documented. One could compare Feinstein to vermin or pond scum, but that would be unfair to rodents or algae.

ND has played the toughest schedule of any major college team in the country and is still undefeated.

I am a proud ND alum. GO IRISH!!!!!
