I'm not a drinker, but want to do something special for when PA goes red. Jay Cost (who is the true sage of politics and I think lives in PA), is not formally calling it but reading between the lines I think he thinks we may win. Local Fresh Market has the Dom Perignon (which I've never tried) for $190. Should I?

Get an inexpensive bottle of Champagne, and the jug size bottle of Old Crow, just in case PA doesn’t go Red. Mrs. ConservativeInPa is actually out shopping for Champagne right now. I have no idea what she is getting. What ever it is, it will be opened when an electoral vote majority is guaranteed. I hope that is PA.
If you’re not a champagne drinker, $190 for bottle of french champagne is a waste of money. It will be good if you drink it, but you are paying such a premium for the name and good champagne will probably all taste about the same to you.
If you have the cash and want to splurge on good stuff, Fifty or sixty dollars on a bottle of Moet and a hundred thirty dollars left over will probably make you much happier.
It depends on whether you like it. Best wine is always the one you like the best. Most French Champagnes are too dry for American tastes. A lot of the reason people want that champagne is it costs a lot therefore it must be good. For a celebration why not, but there are lots of really tasty sparkling wines in the $50-$70 range and you get to drink 3-4 bottles for the priceof one. Personally I like Shramsburg blanch noirs. It’s not that expensive or dry, great flavor, but those are my taste buds.
I would suggest you try the “Sparkling Muskatell,” the finest wine of Idaho. Be sure to smell the bottle cap.

IMHO, Dom is not worth the cost. I have a bottle of 2002 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Reserve Rose chilled and ready to be popped when I hear the words: President-Elect Mitt Romney. This bottle ran me about $85 when bought it in 2010. The vintage reserves Veuve Clicquot sells,puts Dom to shame. I also plan on having a couple of bottles of moscato and a bottle of Jefferson’s Reserve on hand as well.

I’m leaning toward something more sensible like a lot of the posters suggested. Also, I have 6 shotguns and a LOT of ammo.

Try Prosecco, $10-$20 a bottle, lower at Whole Foods. Tastes just as good as champagne. I like the driest of drinks (beer, sake, wine). Presecco is not the absolute driest, but it is dry enough for my palate, and satisfies those who like a sweeter drink as well. I’m sure you could find a better use for another $170. Whatever you do, don’t give it to the Red Cross.
Uh, 'Brut' means 'dry'. Specifically, fewer than 12 grams of sugar per liter. 'Extra Brut' is dryer still, fewer than 6 grams of sugar per liter.
That said, when celebrating the victory of good over evil, I recommend (to the original poster) Pol Roger - Churchill's favorite (or Ruinart Rosé, one of my favorites).
I plan on cracking a cold Coor’s Light for every swing state won plus another for every blue state that turns red. I expect this practice to not last long. I will either run out quickly or go to bed early haha
I say buy it, as long as you still have enough scratch to get the things you need....
I was on a cruise and somebody at our table bought that champagne - boy was I disappointed.
Save your money and give it to someone that it would make a difference to - you’ll feel super!
Dom is very, very dry and an acquired taste. If you’re not an oenophile, you’re wasting your money.

Buy something cheaper and donate the rest to a worthy charity.
