I just checked and it is no more. Remember when the Weekly Reader posted the results of the Presidential Election as seen through the eyes of the little ones? I always found it entertaining and I do belive they got it correct often,not sure.They say it was an eye into the way the parental-units were voting as the cookie crunchers brought the family views to the classroom.
Weekly Reader or not, we have never had a Presidential Pole, although in the 70s, Ed Muskie ran for President.
Must have been going against Obama.
They are now Scholastic News since Scholastic Books bought them out.
Their poll had Obama winning, but the poll was taken in early October.
FWIW, I'd have kept the Weekly Reader title and junked Scholastic News, but I guess they want to use the magazine to prop up their book sales.

The current-events magazine Weekly Reader, a classroom fixture since 1928, will not be returning from summer vacation, its new owner, Scholastic, confirmed this week.
Instead, Scholastic will fold the publication into its own weekly magazine, Scholastic News; the first issues will be co-branded with both names, Kyle Good, a spokeswoman for Scholastic, wrote in an e-mail.
The magazine is perhaps best known for its presidential poll of students, which proved uncannily accurate — since it began with Dwight Eisenhower vs. Adlai Stevenson in 1956, it was wrong only once, in 1992, when it predicted that President George H.W. Bush would defeat Bill Clinton (the poll did not include Ross Perot). The 14th poll predicted a victory by Barack Obama.
He it by 6, but 4 years ago he won be about 17 so an 11 point drop.
They did do the poll in Texas schools.. All of my young grandkids told me.. However, I believe they didn’t post the results this year.. I wonder why????
I thought it was just Texas, obviously not.. Oblameothers is going down BIG, he even lost the kindergarteners this year.. LOLOLOL
The Scholastic Student Vote may not be official, but its results have often indicated who eventually wins the presidential race. Scholastic has conducted the student mock vote during every presidential election since 1940. The results of the student vote have mirrored the actual outcome of all but two elections—1948, when kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman, and 1960, when they selected Richard M. Nixon over John F. Kennedy.
I guess Weekly Reader's ceasing publication and selling out to Scholastic is sweet revenge for Scholastic, since everybody knows the Weekly Reader and Scholastic News is either unknown or forgotten.
FWIW, I didn't know that Reader's Digest, which owned Weekly Reader, went through bankruptcy.
We used to get the Weekly Reader in grade school years and years ago. I enjoyed it and looked forward to it; it even had a nice sort of smell to it as well, similar to mimeographed pages of stuff.
The few Scholastic News I have seen have a liberal bias. It always seems to mention global warming, how great Michele Obama is to create new menus for school cafeteria...etc etc
I keep wishing a conservative will come up with a new “Weekly Reader” so students aren’t brainwashed.
