Five Guns and Only Five Guns, Forever
daily caller ^ | 9-14-12 | Michael Piccione

Posted on 11/03/2012 10:31:23 AM PDT by TurboZamboni

The conversation was about internet marketing and it was with my friend Jon Gibbon of armslist.com. Then out of the blue Jon asked me “If you could only have one gun the rest of your life what would it be?” “Hmmm…I guess it would be my Remington 870.” I figured I could hunt big and small game, defend the home patch and nothing stops like a 12 gauge slug. You can stop a charging dump truck with a 12 gauge slug.

Then the conversation moved to: What would you take if you could only have five guns the rest of your life? Yes, I know this is America, and we have the luxury of owning as many guns as we would like. I’m a person that gets a Christmas card from Ruger. I have four 30-06’s and was disappointed that in 2006 there wasn’t a parade in honor of its 100th anniversary.

Want to acquire

Nobody said anything about limiting each gun to 1 barrel.

I like your thinking. Add 500 Beowulf to the list.

Well, the cost of one round of ammo for that gun would buy me a nice collection and a year of ammunition, easy.

And I think the local range might look askance at me when I wheeled it up to the line..........

I’d go with my M1A NM, one of the ARs, the Browning A5, the HK USPc in .40, and the High Standard Supermatic Citation.

I reload, so I can download the AR to .22 LR ballistics, but I’d still want a .22 LR, and target pistols are fun. The USPc is about the biggest weapon that I can, and do, carry concealed.

The remainder are just your basic standard long guns, and are well suited to the wooded environment where I live.

Considering what rounds are likely to be plentiful, consider the government ammo buys of millions of .40 handgun. It has surpassed the 9mm as the choice of cops and JBT guns.

These days, I content myself with an all-purpose LR-308 for battle and long range use, a 870 of course, and my trust 1911.

Wife has a collectible .380 Colt Hammerless for laughs and beating on someone. But she can shoot well if she needs to.

I have and LOVE my CZ-75B. I’ve got a suppressor for it and it rocks. ACCURATE as can be. At least 5,000 rounds through her and virtually flawless performance. And that powder coat finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I think it’s powder coat.) I practice combat shooting, and have had her in and out of the holster thousand and thousands of times, and I can detect ZERO! NONE! NO! holster wear at all. Love it.

Yep. I have a 75B in .40 and have also put several thousand rounds through it with nary a hitch. I'm fond of telling people that God invented to CZ just to let Sig owners know they paid too much - although it was funnier before CZ prices started to increase like they have over the past few years. Still some of the best sidearms you can find for the money.

If you haven't done so already, I would highly recommend getting a pair of the stippled walnut grips from CZ. They're exceptionally comfortable and improve the aesthetics over the black factory grips by about 1000%.

I am looking to get my first CCW weapon. I would like to stay in the 300-350 range and am partial to revolvers. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

My Model 29 is my Favorite Gun, bury it with me favorite.

Perfect fit for my hand, the way it goes boom and there is something cosmic about a Six Shot Revolver. I can't explain it, but it is the very last thing I would ever sell.

The Dog and the Wife are #2 and #3, but I'm not sure about the ranking. It changes daily.

1. Grips. Help me out here. I ALWAYS get custom grips for my handguns, but I got some for the CZ and they didn’t fit so I sent them back. The 2nd pair didn’t fit either! So I gave up. Does CZ make their own wood grips? If I’m not mistaken, you are saying they do.
2. Price. Yeah, I went looking for a Browning Hi-Power, saw the CZ looking gorgeous at HALF the price, so I took her home. When my wife gets home, I’ll see if she can find the receipt, but I was VERY pleased with the price.
