FR website - running better? I think so.

I saw quite a few threads commenting on how slow the website has been. I have seen a big improvement in the last 4 or 5 days. Something has changed for the better and I think deserves a thread for people to comment. Thanks to Jim Robinson for all you do to help us connect.

Many are still asleep.

Wait until a major live event happens.

Yes, it’s running a lot better the last couple of days ... for me here in WI at least.

Thanx Jim, my browser had been ‘timing out’. I thought it was Fire Fox 12.

Running a bit better, but my hopes aren’t high for election night.

They added a fresh hamster to their server’s treadmill.

I still can’t get to my local board...

And I wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket for election night either....

I changed my settings to 20 comments per page and that helped a lot.

Not better for me, still getting a “can not connect” and have to try twice to reload.

I’ve used “System Ninja” to clear my computer of junk files, etc., and while other sites load much faster FR remains very slow.

Jim Robinson made some suggestions on this thread

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2953013/posts

It seems to have helped. Everyone try them.

Trying to post comments, I timed out periodically almost all day yesterday. I got through here and there only by the grace of my persistence.

Now the world is bereft of my brilliant thoughts that it never got to see for that time period.....although today I can't even remember what I wanted to post, LOL.

I’ve not had any problems with it. It loads quickly for me.

Don’t know what the difference might be.

I was having multiple time outs and then I tried the solution in Jim's thread and it worked for me.

FR has been extremely slow lately and I have seen no improvement. I get the same slow response at work as I do at home. Home Internet speed is a 20m cable connection, while work at my desk is a T-3 (45m) and I have even tried it on a few of the servers connected to a OC-3 (155m) connection. All three are extremely slow, which points to the issue being with the servers at FR. I am having no speed issues with any other website.

Just FYI:

I’ve had almost exactly the same experience as you with the same setups you describe.

It has been whipping along today like it has not done in months. But every time I open my mouth to say it is better then it goes back to be impossible if not difficult to access. I hope that something really has been fixed this time. I have this feeling that it is going to be greatly needed for this election. I see something in the future even far more nasty than the 2000 election if Obama is in danger of losing. Watch Ohio... Because cheating there is So easy for the democrats.
