He had survived the perilous flight back from Nazi-occupied territory hundreds of miles away. Exhausted, the British spy pigeon swooped down on a chimney in Surrey for a rest. And there, sadly, he fell off his perch. Perhaps overcome by fumes from the fire below, he died with a vital coded message in a tiny capsule still strapped to his leg.

Drink more Ovaltine?
Enquiring minds want to know - what did the message say?
“SEND MORE CHUCK BERRY”
“JAPS PLAN TO ATTACK PEARL HARBOR APPROX. DEC 7”
Colonel Flagg says:
“Mares eat oats, and
Does eat oats and
I’ll be home for Christmas”
More bangers and mash with a bit o Tea.....
Colonel Flagg: “Hey, up close you’re a guy!”
Klinger: “Far away too.”
“TESTING REPORTS TOO MANY OF THESE PIGEONS BEING LOST DOWN CHIMNEYS.”
The message said, “70 years from now, tell the children and grandchildren of your American cousins to vote for Mitt Romney!”
And then the message went on to say, “Hitler is the current threat to freedom.....70 years from now, a Kenyan named Obama is another threat to freedom!”
Great character and some fabulous lines. “You think you’re smart Friedman. Well you’re dumb, very dumb. And you’ve met your match.”
This poor patriotic pigeon gave his all for his country and you guy’s make jokes. I’m incensed I tell you!! Incensed!!!!
Wow.... Great story...
It will be interesting to see how long it takes moderm encryption to break the code...
Kilroy was here with best bent wire
This is fascinating. I hope they post what the message meant somewhere.
Poor little birdy.
It said: 'Obama is a MARXIST who should not be RE-ELECTED in 2012. Vote Romney/Ryan.'
10 minutes at the most...........
I do admit that I had to look up the "Send three and fourpence. We are going to a dance." 'decryption' after I saw it posted the second time.
EAT MOR CHIKIN
Ode to a Pigeon
With a secret message well secured,
a pigeon perched upon the flue
just a while to catch his breath
and then his journey to renew.
But gentle warmth lulled him to sleep,
with noxious gas in every breath,
and now his nameless bones remain
to mark a feathered soldier’s death.
