‘Ex-Gay’ Men Fight Back Against View That Homosexuality Can’t Be Changed

By

LOS ANGELES — For most of his life, Blake Smith said, “every inch of my body craved male sexual contact.”

Mr. Smith, 58, who says he believes homosexual behavior is wrong on religious grounds, tried to tough it out. He spent 17 years in a doomed marriage while battling his urges all day, he said, and dreaming about them all night.

But in recent years, as he probed his childhood in counseling and at men’s weekend retreats with names like People Can Change and Journey Into Manhood, “my homosexual feelings have nearly vanished,” Mr. Smith said in an interview at the house in Bakersfield, Calif., he shares with his second wife, who married him eight years ago knowing his history. “In my 50s, for the first time, I can look at a woman and say ‘she’s really hot.’ ”

Mr. Smith is one of thousands of men across the country, often known as “ex-gay,” who believe they have changed their most basic sexual desires through some combination of therapy and prayer — something most scientists say has never been proved possible and is likely an illusion.

Ex-gay men are often closeted, fearing ridicule from gay advocates who accuse them of self-deception and, at the same time, fearing rejection by their church communities as tainted oddities. Here in California, their sense of siege grew more intense in September when Gov. Jerry Brown signed a law banning use of widely discredited sexual “conversion therapies” for minors — an assault on their own validity, some ex-gay men feel.

Signing the measure, Governor Brown repeated the view..

Not surprisingly, there’s an inherent contradiction to the left’s ideology on this issue. In all other cases, the left respects the view of the individual when it comes to proclaiming their sexual preference - or even their gender. Hence, a person can be an ex-male, who later decides to become female (or visa-versa). But somehow this transformation can not occur with regard to sexual preference.

Ironic isn’t it? Where is the so-called “liberal” view on self-determination here?

I dont believe that gay people can “CHANGE.” I also believe that some people are made to believe they are gay by people who say that being gay is good, and natural. These people, as they grow up and gain wisdom, may realize that they were not gay to begin with.

No one ever talks about bisexuals, because it doesn't fit the agenda that they were born that way.

I think it is certainly possible for some homosexuals to change. It may be the ones that were introduced to the lifestyle as children or those who fell into it looking for a father figure. Who knows, but there are plenty of guys in prison that commit homosexual acts and go back to heterosexual sex once they get out.

Liberals can talk ‘till they’re blue in the face but homosexuality is not normal. It’s a vulgar act best described with vulgar language. It’s simply not normal for a man to want to stick his **** into the *** of another man.

Where is the so-called “liberal” view on self-determination here?

Spirited: While the ‘religious’ Left are in fact pantheists, all who adhere to materialist doctrines, such as Richard Dawkins, are ‘new’ pagans after the fashion of the Greek nature philosopher Epicurus. Common to both views is the idea that all that exists is nature.

Nature does not think, cannot speak and is not free to choose to be otherwise than it is. Rain falls, wind blows, tornados and hurricanes mindlessly destroy all in their path, animals mate during breeding season, and dung beetles tend to dung-piles.

If all that exists is nature and man is a part of it then it stands to reason that like wind, rain, and dung-beetles man cannot choose to be other than a fully caused and determined part of nature.

When materialists like ‘cognitive’ scientist Daniel Dennett teach that there is no you, that man has no soul and spirit (mind, will, conscience) he is really saying that since everything living and nonliving consist of matter in motion, then when you think you’re thinking you are really experiencing an illusion caused by movement of chemicals (matter) and firing of synapses (matter) in grey matter.

In answer to your question, ‘liberal’ naturalism, whether materialist or pantheist, is in denial of self-determination. If all men really are capable of self-determination then ‘gays’ can choose not to act on their impulses and the whole ‘gay’ rights ‘gay’ marriage issue falls apart and takes with it all of liberalism’s privileged ‘victims’ rights groups.

I think that's the most fascinating thing about this article. I read the entire article waiting for the point where they would mock any so called ‘ex gay’ movement. But it actually read as a fair piece of journalism. My entire equilibrium may be thrown off for a day or two.

They still haven’t found that homosexual gene. But that’s OK because they have gotten everything they wanted. You see, if homosexuality is genetic, that would make it an illness. Money could be spent to develop gene therapy to remove it from humanity for forever. But that’s not the homosexual goal. Now, it’s a chosen lifestyle. How dare anyone try to impose their beliefs on the chosen homosexual lifestyle! That is their choice! The goal of the homosexual movement has always been quite simple. The goal is to make homosexual behavior acceptable morally and legally. A male trying to mate with another male’s anal canal is insane. A female trying to mate with another female using a rubber appliance is insane. It’s like having Uncle Barney sitting at your dinner table trying to eat by sticking a turkey leg in his ear and telling you that’s his lifestyle. It may be, but it’s still insane behavior.
