Gingrich Appears to Support Akin
National Journal ^ | 9/2/2012 | Chris Frates

Former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich appeared on Sunday to defend Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin, who has been pressured by Republicans to bow out of the race after saying that women don’t get pregnant from “legitimate rape.”

“I think Todd Akin is the choice of the people of Missouri. And Todd Aiken has publicly apologized,” Gingrich said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “People make mistakes.”

Gingrich said he is “fed up with the one-sided bias” that has Akin under fire for his comments but gives a pass to Vice President Joe Biden, who told an audience that included many black supporters that if Republicans win they will put them economically “back in chains.”

I found some of his comments. Called it a distraction but also said for Mitt it’s good to have Saturday night live focus skits on Clint rather than Mitt. So that’s not too bad. On NBC:

“If you’re Mitt Romney and your choice is to have ‘Saturday Night Live’ decide to pick on Clint Eastwood or pick on you, I think I’d give them Clint Eastwood every night for the rest of the campaign,” he said.

I was just asking. Lots of disinformation on the intertubes.

Oddly enough, the last time the major nonpartisan polls did a survey of the Missouri senate race was over a week ago, 8/23, right after Akin’s gaffe. You would think there would be at least a little interest to see if the numbers had changed by now.

I don’t have much to say about either one, although I think Newt would have been a good choice for the nomination.

Misleading title.

The original article was on a link that free republic does not support. However, the gist is that Newt stated Akin should stay in the race and Newt also does not approve of Rove’s comments.

Yes, I read the article. You can read the title two ways.

Either it means that Gingrich gives the appearance of supporting Akin and maybe doesn’t (which is what I thought on first reading), or Gingrich made an appearance in which he expressed support for Akin (which is what the article says).

As I said, misleading.

As I said...the original link was from a site FR does not allow to be posted aka The LA Times. I posted it using an alternative link because it is newsworthy and has an excerpt from the NBC talk show of Newt stating Akin should stay in the race! in other words...Newt is not in accord with the gop e or Rove. Wasn't too hard to understand the gist but of course the title could have been more appropriate. As for me..I like to get the info out.
