Hi Folks! This is perhaps the most absurd story ever reported here — and that’s saying a lot! A reader named Rachel writes:
A Deaf child named Hunter is not allowed to use his name sign because the sign for “Hunter” (a dictionary word) uses the thumb and first two fingers in a gun shape and suggests a shooting motion. Here’s the story.
These school officials have lost their ability to reason if they believe stripping a child of his name is necessary for safety under a weapons policy. Educators who are unable to use logic and critical thinking have no business educating.

Turnabout is fair play.
Have a lawyer send the school a letter demanding the school officials be fired for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Put the school on the defensive.

‘Zero Tolerance’ means ‘Zero Thinking.’ NEVER let a school implement a ‘zero tolerance’ policy; if you are a parent or a grandparent, CHALLENGE any ‘zero tolerance’ policy that comes up (especially in that nice guidebook they send home with registration.) REFUSE to sign any policy statement that includes a zero tolerance policy. ‘I refuse to waive my rights so that you don’t have to think when an issue comes up.’
We wiped out every single zero tolerance policy in the schools my daughter attended - when challenged, the school officials couldn’t come up with a reason for the policy, other than ‘other schools are doing it.’ Which of course brings up the ‘if other schools are throwing their kids off a bridge, are you going to as well?’
Needless to say, we weren’t exactly popular at the PTA meetings...
What is dangerous is allowing people like these government school “officials” in charge of educating children.

Actually, nobody is allowed to use their own common sense judgment these days. There’s a policy for everything. Violate that policy or regulation and the entire institutional weight falls on your head and there’s no stopping it.
Everybody knows the kid’s name, hence there’s no miming of violence going on. No violation! See how easy this is?
