I too like Facebook, although I do struggle with Timeline now and then.
I have no idea. And I'm not going to bother him by asking him about it.
I have no complaints re facebook’s changes. I have never participated.It seemed like a massive time waster when I looked at it when it was new.
My only Facebook account has a phony name and one time yahoo email address (also phony). I only use the account to check out old girlfriends. :-)
You could do what I did when the timeline started. I will post something on my page..........and then after 12 hours......go back and delete all of the post and answers to the post. My timeline is about 4 lines long. Took me about 2 hours to erase everything I posted before timeline started..
I also use an add-on called facebook purity that lets me get rid of most of those annoying features that facebook likes to give you without asking you,,,AND lets you manage or even get rid of some of the scrolling feeds and features I hate..
People without televisions do the same thing.

Well said. Social networking is here to stay. Some people that are above using facebook have no problem using free republic as essentially a chat site. I fall somewhere in the middle I suppose - not a addict and not a naysayer. I use it to keep up distant friends but refuse to engage in silly day to day chatter “uh I just put my leftovers in the fridge “. To each his own.

I agree—FB can be great for staying in touch with widely-dispersed friends and family, sharing pictures and experiences. It’s also GREAT for marketing a small business. A lot of small businesses, like mine, use it in addition to or alongside a website. You can stay in touch with customers or potential customers and be very responsive, putting up new products without having to talk to a webmaster or have fistfights with HTML. Potential customers are on FB already, so why not contact them that way? It works for me.

Actually, like you I'm somewhere in the middle: I'm on FB, but I'm just not into it. Most of it seems dry & boring. Useful for contacting some people or advertising, but the trivial stuff is probably 90%. I'm just not interested in someone's cat, or where they had dinner.
That's how I feel about social media, in general -- it has its uses, and, as you said, it's not going away. But the ones who abuse it are so irritating. Maybe after the novelty recedes, these people will fade away.
The FReep, on the other hand, has so many more interesting people & posts. I'm never bored; in the past 8 years since I signed on, I feel like I have gotten an education.
Yes I agree and like the way you said that. I use Facebook but don't allow it to use me. The other thing I do is keep my friend list down to hold down the chatter level.
