You may think you know what an addict looks like - but growing numbers of suburban mothers are becoming hooked on prescription drug Adderall in the battle to be the perfect parent. Overstretched women across the US are turning to medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which gives them the energy to keep pace with the frantic pace of their lives. Some mothers, who are often relatively affluent and usually aged in their late 20s and 30s, admit to stealing the drug from their children. Between 2002 and 2010, there was a 750 per cent increase in Adderall prescriptions for women between 26 and 39.

There has been a 750% increase in use for women aged between 26 and 39 Mothers are lying to doctors and using their children's prescription to get hold of the drug One parent used Adderall to stay up until 3am cleaning Others use it for weightloss and to cope with stress
“’We’ve got an increase in women using drugs like Adderall ending up in our treatment programs... It’s dangerous and can cause seizures, strokes, heart attacks, even death.”
It amazes me that doctors will perscribe and parents will give this stuff to kids.
I have a rule in my house that my child will not take any drugs that I don’t try myself first. I took an Adderall and the stuff is worse and more mind altering than cocaine (I grew up in the 80’s).
Most colleges it’s called the
“Breakfast of Champions”
So no surprise there
There are plenty of drugs that will mess you up pretty bad *if you don’t have the condition they’re intended to treat*. That’s, frankly, a really ignorant “test” you’ve devised.
There are plenty of studies that have shown Adderall, Ritalin, et al to be quite effective in children who actually have ADHD. I had it, and for me all it did was make it far easier to stay focused on my work. I did give one to a friend who did not have ADHD, who (unfortunately) abused things like that, and he had a “very smooth” amphetamine-like experience.
Adderall is widely over-prescribed. I saw dozens of classmates in college using it without a prescription, or with one gotten through dubious means in order to boost their GPA.
It is quite effective in turning them into zombies.
This is what the ‘feminist revolution’ gave us:
low birth rates for white women
divorce
55 million abortions
unhappy women.
[ I have a rule in my house that my child will not take any drugs that I dont try myself first. I took an Adderall and the stuff is worse and more mind altering than cocaine (I grew up in the 80s). ]
It is basically “Prescription Speed”. Hopefully you didn’t get addicted to it.
What a drag it is getting old...
[Subheadline: Women reveal they’ve stolen drugs off their own children under pressure to be ‘perfect’

Caffine not good enough for them, or have they blown out all their receptors for caffine?
On a side note, Also the government needs to allow Tobacco companies to make “other nicotine” products such as nicotne enhanced mints, nicotine enhanced soda etc...
I grew up on a farm and all my bothers became smokers during harvest time to stay awake most of the night. Now chewing and smoking tobacco is bad because all the other stuff in it. Now Nicotine itself isn;t all that bad in terms of cancer etc, it is all the crap that gets burn in the cigarette like tar that causes the issues. If they really want to stop smoking in public simply relax restrictions on products that have nicotine as an additice and classify/treat nicotine the same way caffine is handled as an additive to sodas etc...
There are a staggering number of women who are using their children to get what they want...they are leading their own children into the pit of hell.

Not to mention if they start mixing it with something like Ambien...
They could be behaving normally in the middle of the night going out on shopping trips to the 24 hour supermarket at 3am and wake up in the morning not remeber where the heck they have been.
Yeah, I hate to see what would happen if someone took adderol, ambien and “bath salts” but i would imagine they would attack random people on the street and start eating their faces then go back home and wake up at 7:00am and wonder why they have bits of people flesh stuck in their teeth...
Tomorrow's headlines today..? Perhaps.
Not to mention weight loss which I think is the more legitimate reason for the increase.
It's funny that you mention weight loss, mmichaels1970. Did you know that Adderall was once called Obetrol (obesity control, get it) and was used for weight control?
(and to think they give this drug to children as young as 4 or 5 years old!)
I knew many college kids that would use it during hard times. One of my classmates would use it and not sleep for 1-2 weeks at a time while studying constantly. Not only does it keep you awake, but it increases focus and learning speed.
She felt fine but it is obviously knew it was bad for long-term use. I have seen people do incredible stuff on it and today they are very successful professionals.
Legalizing it for studying is debatable but IMO, it is about as dangerous as taking caffeine pills.
“Things are different today I hear every mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down”...
Deja vu-only the drugs are different. I committed to a natural lifestyle many years ago, and drugs are not a part of that. Whatever good they may do is undone by the dreadful side effects.
Sweet stuff to have if you want to pass a lie-detector
I’m so damn tired of seeing this crap called “medication”. There’s nothing remotely medical about ADHD. It’s a sales pitch invented by the makers to peddle the stuff.
The perceived benefit to kids only lasts about 3 years and then they’re burnt by it for life.
The study I want to see done is in the prisons to find out how many inmates were prescribed this stuff as kids. Inner City kids get hammered left and right with all kinds of behavioral drugs, and then we get this epidemic of black males in those cities having run ins with the law.
The problem goes beyond creating a culture of dependancy through Government handouts, but we’re still paying people to try to hang it on Social Darwinist genetics, and that one’s a complete pile too.

Call the stuff what it. Pharmaceutical bathtub speed.
When I was in college, that same boost was sought by taking various types of prescription speed-often purchased from long-haul truckers who used the stuff, too. The people I know who did those drugs (who didn’t commit suicide by age 30) are seriously screwed up emotionally.

Of course, I grew up in the 80s when steroids were legal and passed around like candy.
From the article: “If you type ‘How do I get my doctor to prescribe Adderall?’ into Yahoo, you will get tens of millions of hits.”
Duh. That’s because the words “prescribe,” “doctor,” and “Adderall” show up quite a lot on the Web. If you type that exact phrase into Yahoo with the quotation marks around it, however, you get 41 hits. But that doesn’t quite match the hype this article (originally from ABC News) was going for.
You Do have my sympathy that your child is in the spot they’re in and you are in the spot you’re in because of it.
Brain Scans?

Smoke and Mirrors
Genetics? It’s above. Nothing there. and since there’s Nothing to the genetic ruse then there’s Nothing to the Chemical Brain Imbalance ruse either.
Psychiatric drugs are an option?

No.
Debate all you want? There is Nothing to debate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison
Edison is the fourth most prolific inventor in history, holding 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
In school, the young Edison’s mind often wandered, and his teacher, the Reverend Engle, was overheard calling him “addled”. This ended Edison’s three months of official schooling.
Edison would be diagnosed and drugged today in a heartbeat, 1,093 patents.
Medically Sick? Not hardly.
ADHD is not a medical disease and trying to drug it into submission is a horrible mistake.
The boy killed by ADHD treatment on that site was diagnosed as having a medical disorder based on a 5 minute pencil twirling trick.
“And I consider mental illness to be very medical.”
So does the nation’s largest patient advocacy group, NAMI.
http://www.nami.org:80/Template.cfm?Section=Major_Foundation_and_Corporate_Support
81% of their financial support if from the makers of mental illness drugs, and the finances of most other support groups, like DBSA, tells a similar story and agenda.
Like I said you do have my sympathy but drugs are not going to fix your child or actually help your child. Follow the money.
Except that for every statistical outlier like the one you cite, there are hundreds who are legitimately helped by medication.
I’m one. I was diagnosed late, at the end of my Sophomore year in high school. I was put on Ritalin, after extensive testing and observation. It made an incredible difference. I went from C and D grades to all A. I was way more attentive in class and much more able to plan and schedule myself. I took 10mg of Ritalin in the morning and 10 at lunch. I am now a successful, well-adjusted senior IT executive.
Oh, and did I mention this was back in the 1980s, long before ADD became “trendy”? It may be overdiagnosed now, but there are still legitimate cases, and the drugs work. I was never “tweaking” when I took it; I reacted to the drug very differently than someone who doesn’t have the condition would.
I’m glad you escaped with a whole skin & life. But that doesn’t justify allowing a pack of lying, they call it Non-Disclosing, pill peddlers to addict Millions of kids to ADHD drugs simply because a top to bottom culture of corruption pervades our medical system and CMS will reimburse them for their pencil twirlings.

“Parents report that approximately 9.5% or 5.4 million children 4-17 years of age have ever been diagnosed with ADHD, as of 2007.
The percentage of children with a parent-reported ADHD diagnosis increased by 22% between 2003 and 2007.
Rates of ADHD diagnosis increased an average of 3% per year from 1997 to 2006 [Read article ] and an average of 5.5% per year from 2003 to 2007. “
SNIP
“As of 2007, parents of 2.7 million youth ages 4-17 years (66.3% of those with a current diagnosis) report that their child was receiving medication treatment for the disorder.”
9.5%? How did we Ever survive the 9.5% before the APA discovered they could make a ton of money discovering that almost 1 in 10 kids are incurable for life with a Non Medical ADHD?

Sorry, but No Sale.
ADHD is Not a medical condition and Diagnosing it and Drugging it Should be understood and prosecuted as a crime.
