aking a cue from New York City's proposed ban on sugary drinks, one Massachusetts town is looking to pass a similar crackdown to combat obesity and diabetes. Residents of Cambridge may have to sacrifice larger portions of soft drinks in its battle of the bulge, nearly a month after New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg made national headlines with his own proposal. Cambridge Mayor Henrietta Davis submitted the proposal at a city council meeting on Monday night.

The People's Republic of Cambridge strikes again. There is an inverse relationship between how leftist a city is and personal freedom except for the right to commit sodomy.

I agree on the Leftist city comment. I live near the Peoples Republic of Boulder Colorado, which I expect to follow Cambridge and once again infringe on peoples freedom, Boulder has a habit of doing that.

Funny thing is, Beck pointed out that a 40oz soda actually only has about 10oz of soda because of all the ice.

Obesity...That’s the big problem weighing on this nation. Yup. Sure. You bet. /sarc

I wonder if the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah were worried about their weight?

Simple. Charge $100 for the ‘PC” size alone and you normal “karge’ rate for the PC size with refills.

That is not going to go very well at MIT’s Junior Lab (Physics) or Unified (Aero&Astro). Good luck with that.

Isn’t this country great?

We can kill our unborn, we can have gay sex, but they want to outlaw the Big Gulp.

I mean the drink, not the act.

MA outlawed Happy Hour in 1983, iirc. It was one of the first things Mike Dukakis did when he made his gubernatorial comeback.

Amazing, disgusting, and pathetic.

The proposal in Cambridge is not to outlaw “large” sugary drinks; it’s to outlaw ALL sugary drinks.

One more step towards a diet of soilent green.

Public schools have done a great job of eliminating the real meaning of freedom and personal responsibility for generations of students.

Anyone with a real knowledge of the founding of this country would demand these nanny state mongrels be tarred and feathered.

Stay the hell away from my food.

If they can ban drinks then desserts will be next. There’s no difference between sugar in a drink vs sugar in desserts.

1984 was the year. It was a referendum question sponsored by MADD, mother's against drunk driving. Basically their underage kids were dying in drunk driving accidents and they blamed happy hour. MADD also raised the drinking age from 18 to 21. I was 17 at the time, boy was I madddddddddd.
