A gambler who turned a £17 stake into £650,000 over a three-and-a-half-hour online gaming session compared to the classic film 'The Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo' could be stripped of his jackpot.
Bruno Venturi, 41, kept winning while playing a lottery-style game on Eurobet.com in 2009.
However, the company which operated the gambling website insists a software bug meant chance had nothing to do with it.
Surrey-based Eurobet UK Ltd claims that his winnings are null and void because he was mistakenly charged for only one in six of his bets.
The company has refused to pay up, sparking a High Court legal battle, which Judge Simon Brown QC said reminded him of the 1935 film, 'The Man who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo'.
The film, inspired by a British music hall song of the same name, is a romantic comedy which tells the story of a former Russian aristocrat who by luck wins 10 million francs playing baccarat at a casino.
The casino dispatches a beautiful woman to attempt to lure him back to the gambling tables and he is eventually left penniless again.
Pet shop worker Mr Venturi, who had won only meagre sums in his previous two years using the website, says he was completely unaware of what was about to unfold when he logged on to play the “Sixty Seconds” game from his home in Naples, Italy, on January 28 2009.
The company claims an error caused by a software upgrade meant Mr Venturi was charged for only one in six of the 6,670 wagers he placed, dramatically increasing his chances of winning the game, which has since been removed from the internet.

What is UK law if an in-person dealer screws up raking in the losing bet? While I doubt his pit boss would allow him to screw up 5 times out of 6, it is still the casino's responsibility to run its game correctly.
And remember Eurobet UK Ltd is the casino which doesn't pay.

Come on and play at, (insert casino name here.)’ Surely they could make a big media event out of it, and a lot of people would want to play there. They’ve messed up now. Like the guy before me said, No one will play if they think they’re not going to get paid.

What happened to the pot?
The 6/12/2012 jackpot was won by 1 ticket holder in Iowa. There were 7 5+0 winners worth 1 million.
Not all the winners even claim their prizes or even realize that they have won.
The software “bug” is that these machines do not allow anyone to win big.
Gambling = The Idiot Tax.
I have a great system to win tons of money on slot machines.

same with the banks, you plough the money in , no problem, they make a mistake, sorry we want our money back. I hope he wins and gets the cash. Not his fault, he could equally say, well the machine did not tell me there was a problem while he was ploughing money in, so if the software is bugged, then its their fault, should have made sure it worked correctly.

Even that doesn't work so good any more. There are too many gambling venues and the margins are too small. Gambling was much more lucrative when venues were scarce.
I’m sure if there had been a bug that reduced his chances of winning the company would have cheerfully tracked him down and refunded his money.
If the player conspired or committed fraud to win, then take it away from him.
If the company screwed up, it’s their problem.
There is no such thing as a 6/12/2012 Powerball jackpot winner. But you know that, right?
The Powerball “pot” was supposedly won on 6/13/2012, and there were 3 each, 5 of 5 published number winners of 1 mil each. At least one won a powerplay, which is not the same as the powerball. No 5 of 5 plus Powerball ticket was sold, supposedly.
The jackpot was 240 million. Nobody won the ultimate jackpot, so it should have rolled over again.
Anyone have an answer?
