Doctored Data, Not U.S. Temperatures, Set a Record This Year

“Americans just lived through the hottest 12 months ever recorded, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported Tuesday,” according to the May 15 Los Angeles Times.

Which begs the question, what does “recorded” mean?

I believe there has also been a reduction in the number of rural data collection stations and that only increases the effect of the data from the “heat islands”.

That's part of it. The computer modelers also resampled and adjusted historic temperature data. In many cases their adjustments resulted in lower "temperatures" for locations in, for example, the 1930s than were actually recorded by the weather observers. Needless to say that "adjustment" makes the increase in temperature seem greater than it would be if the real data was used.

Global warming believers point to weather data series that show warming, like the data from Blue Hills Observatory in Massachusetts, but they ignore other data from the same recording stations, like average wind speed data, which are inversely correlated with the temperature data but don't fit the AGW models.

Years ago....I used to jog in Tucson...always near the central park near the base. There were three or four official weather service stations in Tucson...of which one of the “trailers” were at the edge of this park.

I stood there one day (110 degrees), and was plain worn out from walking. There was the trailer, and it’s assorted collection devices. Surrounding the trailer and within twenty feet...was a four-lane intersection with tons of asphalt. Around the trailer itself...someone had landscaped the area with at least six tons of gravel and rocks. Toss in the sidewalk and a nearby parking lot, and this was a magnet for heat. The trailer was probably recording temps at three degrees above what the real norm should have been. I’m guessing that the trailer had been there for at least twenty years. I doubt very seriously that any of the local weather guys who were responsible for it....really cared. It was faulty numbers that they were collecting, but obviously....it just didn’t matter.

I’d make a guess that at least thirty percent of the data that the Weather Service collects each year....is faulty data. No one is willing to stand up, admit it, and fix the situation.

World temperatures have a 125,000 year cycle.
What happens in a given 12, or 112, year period means little.

I live in a rural area where the official Weather Service station is located at the small local airport among sand, rocks and sage brush. It is always at least 7 degrees hotter out there than anywhere else around.

Nothing wrong with that. The problem from is from urban heat islands and specifically from taking temperature measurements in areas that have become urbanized over the period of record. That creates an artificial uptick in temperature averages when there was no actual temperature increase.

Blue Hills Observatory in Massachusetts

Been there and seen their cheezy presentation. They truly believe that their little thermometer at the southeast end of an increasingly urbanized area is a valid record of "global warming" from carbon dioxide. Lunatics.

We are 10 degrees below ‘average’ here in the mid-Willamette Valley. Personally, I could use a little global warming!
