Perhaps in YOUR internal mental view of science. In the real world, however, science often sees a phenomenon and develops a theory to explain it. I am not aware of any controversy regarding rogue waves, and in fact I have a textbook printed in the Fifties which talks about these large waves.

That’s a problem. It doesn’t explain them all. Nor did it predict how we could find them with satellite observations.
