Are Republicans Bending On ‘Obamacare’? (Allen West is "wavering"???)
TPM ^ | 5/28/2012 | Sahil Kapur

Posted on 06/02/2012 7:16:29 PM PDT by ak267

As the landmark Supreme Court decision looms next month, Republicans have been privately considering a plan to reinstate some popular provisions of “Obamacare” if it’s struck down.

The revelation sent conservative advocates — who have demanded nothing less than total repeal — into a tizzy, which forced House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to reaffirm his commitment to “repealing Obamacare in its entirety,” declaring that “[a]nything short of that is unacceptable.”

But more evidence is emerging that Republicans believe that’s not tenable.

Rep. Allen West (R-FL), a tea party darling, told ThinkProgress that he supports preserving three popular provisions of the Affordable Care Act — the same three that his party’s leaders are reportedly considering.

“You’ve got to replace it with something,” West said. “If people want to keep their kid on insurance at 26, fine. We’ve got to make sure no American gets turned back for pre-existing conditions, that’s fine. Keep the doughnut hole closed, that’s fine. But what I just talked to you about — maybe 20, 25 pages of legislation.”

Nothing less than a full repeal of “Obamacare”, and the T.Kennedy influence of government legislated out of our medical system is acceptable to me.

We have to get the Nanny out of Government. Make it too small for Nanny to move in, and take over bossing everybody about.

I sell Part D Medicare, Prescription Drug plans.

The “Donut Hole” is useful, it FORCES people to care about the cost of the drugs they are taking, consider generics, consider other drugs as a replacement, etc.

It is a really dumb idea to get rid of the “donut hole” as Part D is the ONLY government program, in history, to come in below budget projections.

The Donut Hole has a great deal to do with that fact.

This probably is phoney, but I do believe that Obamacare, if it survives the Supreme Court, won’t be repealed even if the Republican Parry takes control of the House and Senate and Romney somehow becomes President. There are too many liberals and socialists in both parties.

Where was it edited? Did they alter his voice? Alter his words? Where? He said what he said to the reporter.

Simply put, it won’t work. If they have kids insured to 26, close the donut hole, waive pre-existing conditions AND LET THE MARKET DICTATE THE PRICE, then there will be a “victim-induced” scream fest (usual suspects) when they see the bill. And the “parade of victims” will be a cinematic production.

The Republicans will then be in a jam to find way to “fund” the areas they let survive.

Either West was talking too fast for his head, pandering to his senior citizen voting base or this was a trial balloon by the chicken-shit GOP leadership. One person says one thing while leadership says another. The optics don’t look good.

Either way, if the bill is struck down or gutted, the GOP will need a plan for the inevitable battle by the DEMS who will scream for something to replace it. The GOP wants reforms and “market place” solutions...then what is it? They need to get in front of this.

I did not know that Mr. West is a socialist appeaser. I hope someone can find evidence that this story is false.

I agree as far as ordinary meds are concerned, but if you take specialty drugs, you reach that donuts hole quickly. And the cost of those drugs can be enormous.

Last year, my kidney doctor put me on Procrit, a specialty drug. I reached the coverage gap in July. The drug subsequently cost me $300 a month till the end of the year. There is no generic equivalent, and Canadian pharmacies don't sell it. So I had to pay the full price. $1500 is a lot of money when you're on a fixed income. And I've heard of even worse scenarios for life saving drugs such as those for cancer.

Fortunately, I no longer take Procrit. Turned out it wasn't helping at all. I told the doctor I'm not taking a costly drug if it isn't working. But I'm lucky to have the option of discontinuing the med. For some patients that is not an option.

Repeal the whole thing. Not one shred should survive.

People should buy the insurance they desire at the price the market provides. Remember, it is “Insurance”, not “medical care”; two very different things.

Insurance is paid protection against monetary loss. Medical care is what you actually receive. I should be able to buy the insurance I want, to cover those I choose, in a manner I want at a price the FREE MARKET DETERMINES.

If I can’t afford something, I can’t buy it. It should not be given to me “free” (paid by someone else). If I “need” something to live but can’t afford it, charity may help but I CANNOT DEMAND it for free. Life is tough. Can’t afford your meds, too bad.

Why do so many think that they should get something they can’t pay for? The brilliant Dr Walter Williams had an article prescribing this sickness of forced labor. When you demand it for free you are stealing the labor of your neighbor.
