(CBS News) In his first interview since he lost his primary earlier this month, Indiana Republican Senator Richard Lugar said he had no plans to campaign for Richard Mourdock, who beat him.
"For the time being, I don't plan an active campaign," Lugar said on "Face the Nation."
The 80-year old lawmaker, known for reaching a landmark post-Cold War agreement on weapons reductions with Russia, has served in the Senate for 36 years. He lost to Tea Party-backed State Treasurer Richard Mourdock by 20 percent during the May 8 primary.
Lugar told host Bob Schieffer that Republican voters in Indiana wrote off the need for bipartisanship.

Good. Who wants him?
Hey Dick, you were a big politician, but you are a small man.
Sour grapes, old fart. No more RINOs.
Ditto.
“The 80-year old lawmaker, known for reaching a landmark post-Cold War agreement on weapons reductions with Russia, has served in the Senate for 36 years.”
That’s three strikes right there, Dick.
Lugar isn’t done yet. Lame duck session will include him actively pushing the UN LOST treaty , and who knows what else. A window to push globalist agenda
he is free to campaign for the Democrats now. lol
Hey RINO, is that a promise?
Dick is more than his first name.
Work or actually producing is not what Establishment rulers do. This would include doing ANYTHING that benefits Republican voters, especially conservatives.
This is exactly why they despised Newt, or the thought of Newt arriving on their DC turf as a nominee. He wore them out as Speaker and they hate him for it.
Send McConnel home. Send Boehner home. Send Cantor home.
I’m even sick of Coburn (OK), and Cornyn (TX). These guys stick their neck out now for no one who isn’t RINO, least of all for kick butt conservatives, whom they water board upon arrival.
No one needs bipartisanship but the damned liberals.
dick head ing home, eh? No big loss.
Im even sick of Coburn (OK), and Cornyn (TX).
Some of us have been sick of Cornyn for a long time. He’s up for reelection in 2014. Hopefully we’ll have a good candidate to run against him and get him out of there.
>> Im even sick of Coburn (OK), and Cornyn (TX)
Ditto.
Your and my supposedly conservative senators are both too rino for comfort.
Has Mourdock thanked him for saying he won’t campaign for him?
Any pol who loses by 20% brings nothing to the party.
It is time for term limits, senate and house. Take your marbles and go home Dick, no one will miss you. Enjoy playing by yourself.
Can’t imagine who I could recommend. How about you. Wish we had Alan West type. Smart, charasmatic, deadly serious and conservative to the shoe soles.
We may have fired our best shot with Cruz and it’s going to be a bloody fur flying fight during this run off campaign to squeeze him in through the sheep gate.
Heck, there are conservatives on FR who don’t know the difference between him and the establishment Dewhurst and don’t seem to care. Amazing.
“A large portion of the Republican Party of Indiana believed, apparently, in the idea of individualism as opposed to community.....” Lugar said.
*******************************************************************
Well....duh!! Back to Mclean Virginia with you now—where you can profess your beliefs in “community” and drool into your drool-cup.
Richard Lugar. Just another Dick.
I used to think Coburn was the best senator there since Helms retired. Now, I find him run-of-the-mill and wouldn’t turn on the TV to watch him at all as I would have Helms.
Not a chance! TX people like the status quo, as they mostly demonstrated again on May 29.
Lugar told host Bob Schieffer that Republican voters in Indiana wrote off the need for bipartisanship."Bipartisanship" - doing what the Democrats want.
Coburn has either switched or I have caught on late. I had to be one of his very biggest fans in the beginning, along with you! He’s a RINO now, trying to retire rich on his book oracle, of how awesome it is that only he can add and subtract.
Silent as a cricket until Newt got in the race and he freaks out, joins the DC mafia for Romney against Newt all over TV, and then crawls back under his rock among the waiting for Romney’s coronation, content to avoid supporting any real conservative.
Preening about his imaginary friend Barky Obamao was the first clue and the LAST straw for me. Then came his holy admonition to Oklahomans who criticised Pelosi. They were friends too, don’t you know, and she was “a very nice lady”.
Gag.

My first thought was that if Dewdrop does lose to Cruz he might run against Cornyn in 2014. Or he might wait in the wings to see if Perry runs for Governor again and if he doesn’t, then he would run for governor. Or how about someone like Michael Williams. He lost his primary election - really disappointed me. Whomever it might be would have to have very deep pockets and be able to take on the Austin, California, machine.
The real scary thought though is that we will have people like Cornyn and Pete Olson until they decides to retire.
There was just a whole lot of candidates running for some of the positions this time and with such a low turnout in so many parts of the state, it was hard to win. We have a whole lot riding on the run off.
In the meantime I just hope that people vote for Randy Weber who is running for Ron Paul’s old seat. He is truly “smart, charismatic, deadly serious and conservative to the shoe soles”. Plus he has a beautiful and very intelligent wife and awesome family.
Put me on your ping list on Randy Weber. He is outside my district, but I would be happy to follow him along with you.
Michael Williams. Yes, he is such a good, good bet. Redstate.com is behind him all the way. I guess he was lost among all the contenders that were in his race? He should have a future. Very disappointing for me too that he didn’t pull up a win.
On the other hand, it was reported that the low turn out was actually what really helped Cruz. The die hards, us conservatives, vote anywhere any time, and the marginal voters were pooped from the weekend and had lost interest with the month late ballot day. Dewberry had the name recognition and might have made 50 in a large turn out.
BTW, I had not put my exhausted brain to use on the possibilities of a Dewhust-Cornyn contest, but always assumed Dewhurst would try for governor one day. What you think is very interesting. Thanks.
I wonder if these inbreds have already figured these challenges out among themselves? The key seems to be to do just that and muster a bloc of power and money and buy offs, well in advance of announcing. Romney bought a lot of DC campaigns in the past three years.
Ricardo “Smoker” Lugar serveved for some time admirably. His passing to retirement in DC wasn’t an “age” thing, moreover, Smoker’s loss is a direct result of “representation”, his failure to!
My fellow Hoosiers could tolerate his “smoking the opposition” habit and we tolerated, for far too long, “smokers” attempts to give our farms, our jobs and our country’s security. Dicks’ propensity for “swallowing” manure or whatever was put in his face by the opposition or Dick’s impotence became his own demise. Luckily, we finally got the batting order correct...Country, security, jobs...
Second guess your vote?...Don not ever! The out-pouring of disingenuous, democrats crying, pouting and limply aurguing for Luggy the “Richard Smoker”...Well...It may be OK to smoke...but swallowing my be dangerous to your political health!
We don’t give 2 snits about his hurt feelings...He’ll retire and live off all of us! buh-buh-bye.....Dick!
You’re a decent man. Now, go mow your own grass in your Georgetown hood.
Thank you my fellow Hoosiers! Thanks to all our supporting country men/women! This is how we beat them!!!!!

Interesting thought and probably more truth than fiction. Seems as if much of the time these folks have already planned their ascendency chart. What they have never learned is how to incorporate the fact that sometimes we mere mortals have other ideas and sometimes there are enough of us with a like mind to muck up their program. Like the rising up of the Tea Party.
Or sometimes one of the people they have already designated to be the king will do or say something that creates a real problem for them - like BO and his statement on gays. This is causing them grief in the Black community. How much is yet to be seen.
I think it is very interesting that Sarah was blasted by the RINO machine because of her supposed lack of experience with foreign affairs but no one has brought this up about Romney.
Sorry but I don’t have a ping list for Weber. Just don’t have the time. Spending a lot of time on our local elections and I do have a business to attend to. Not enough hours in a day.
