What do you think of Pizza Patron’s free pizza promotion?

It’s great. I’ll speak Spanish to get a free pizza.

It’s inappropriate. This is the U.S. Speak English.

As much as this eats at me... a privately owned business should make its own rules. I personally wouldn’t eat there. However, I supported the one business that refused to serve people speaking Spanish (orders were in English only). I guess this is sort of the flip side of the coin for me.

the article says that 60% of its’ customer base is mexican. Perhaps if the remaining 40% of non-mexican customers stop purchasing there they can have 100% mexican customers.

How about if the remaining 40% of non Mexican customers order in Spanish? How long can they give away free pizza's to their entire customer base?

I boycott them, so many good pizza choices out there. But if it’ll help put them out of business giving free pizzas away, we should all do it on June 5th

They showed the San Antonio Pizza Patron on the local news last night. When you walk in the door there is a sign that says “Order in Spanish, get a Free Pizza”. Right below it is the Spanish phrase :”Una Pizza Por Favor”

It’s not rocket science, and it’s a privately owned business. I wouldn’t be offended if it said, “Order in Italian and get a Free Pizza” with the words, “Una pizza, per favore.” underneath.

The guy on TV said that you literally can say “por favor” and you get the pizza. Not a bad deal. Everyone can say, “Como esta?” and “Por favor”. It is just a cute little thing for them to get everyone out to get the pizza. It is like St. Patrick’s Day getting green beer by wearing green. It is a one day thing too.

Growing up in Miami, if I wanted pizza for lunch across the street from the high school I had to order in Spanglish.

“Senor, dos pizzas y una Coca-Cola chiquita porfavor!”

I guess this is sort of the flip side of the coin for me.

For me it is no where near the flip side. The sandwich guy in PA was demanding that all customers speak English - generally regarded as the language of Americans, and he was upset because folk were ordering in Spanish. This guy is giving away FREE pizza to anyone who orders the pizza in a foreign language IN ORDER TO KEEP THE ILLEGAL ALIEN CONTROVERSY GOING.

Sorry, I can't quite see the comparison.

To me this is no different than the gay marriage brought to us by the liberals - both gay marriage and rights of illegal aliens to vote will never go away until the liberals get the conservative to "COMPROMISE" with them and have the Government acknowledge gay marriage and award the invaders from the south with DemocRAT voting rights.

Try and name one "Compromise" the RAT party has made with the conservatives since the RATS took control of the Congress in Jan 2007, but in particular since the black jesus has been installed in the WH.

Like I said.. I would NOT be a patron. However, if one owns a business then they can hand out free stuff to whoever they want. For example, do you feel it is unfair that women get free drinks or drinks at half price at Happy Hour? Or, is it fair that senior citizens have their own section on the menu (usually at less money). I don’t like the fact that they are promoting Spanish as a language over English. However, it is their business.... (and it hopefully will fail)/

What a bunch of dumb "thinkers" around here. If you want pizza, speak Italian. There is no English word for "pizza" and if it was pronounced in English, it would sound like something wet, wam, and smelly. To order Mexican dishes in a Mexican restaurant, speak Spanish. To order "pizza" in a Mexican restaurant, speak Italian. Do not use Spanish or English to order "sauerbraten" in a German restaurant. Verdad? N'est ce pas? Nicht wahr? When you are in Rome ...

Don't be an ass on such an asinine opinion! If you want English "pizza," stick to your "purist" position and pay for it. Or, live a little risky and learn a bit of someone else's mother tongue. Be a little cosmopolitan (that's Greek for the ignorant) and make a friend, not a foe. Failing that, remain a rude rube!

“How about if the remaining 40% of non Mexican customers order in Spanish? . . .”

This applies to the tax base in this country if we the 40% stopped paying taxes, would the 60% go back home?

It doesn’t bother me.

This is a PRIVATE business, he can do what
he wants, for whatever reason.

I would encourage all Conservative types
within driving distance to go to the shop
and order pie in Spanish, and OVERWHELM his system
with people wanting to take advantage of
his ‘kindness’.

Ya know, like how illegals who speal spanish
have overwhelmed OUR system.

If they don't exchange it for dollars, but take it back over the border and spend it in Mexico, is that taxable? Isn't it barter, like paying for a pizza with, say, a bag of flour and a dozen eggs? Pesos are not legal tender in the US, are they?

(Re my post #17, I didn't mean personally you, dynachrome, I just meant "one" = a person -- not meant as an insult to you. And also I misspelled "warm" as "wam" --)

I think this whole thing is ridiculous. In the grand scheme of things, this issue doesn’t even rate miniscule. What if On the Border offered free margaritas if you said “Margarita, por favor”? Many here would jump at that one.

There are bigger fights to fight.

Flame on.

Try that in Montreal

Or better yet, in Quebec Province -- (smile)

Yes, and Montreal is in Quebec Province. I spent a few days in Granby, Quebec in 1979 that was owned by a US company that bought it from an Italian company. We had a meeting where English, French, Italian were being spoken.

A few years later I was in Taiwan for a couple weeks and a French contingent staying at the hotel where I was staying had to speak English :) ... the Chinese did not speak French and the French did not speak Chinese, but both spoke English. That did my heart good!
