SPACE TAXIS: NEXT STOP MARS?
Discovery News ^ | 05/21/12 | Irene Klotz

Posted on 05/21/2012 7:01:31 PM PDT by KevinDavis

Privately owned Space Exploration Technologies is poised to make a test run to the International Space Station early Tuesday, but visiting the orbital outpost is just the beginning of the company's grand plan to give humanity a toehold on Mars.

"Our goal is to revolutionize space transport, so we'll be doing every kind of space transport, except for suborbital. We'll launch satellites of all shapes and sizes, service the space station with cargo and crew, and then the long-term objective is to develop a space transport system that will enable humanity to become a multi-planet species," company founder and chief executive officer Elon Musk said in an interview with SpaceflightNow.com.

Dude, we don’t have anything to keep us alive/asleep long enough to get there.

I already feel like I’ve been living on Mars for the past 25 years.

I hear that the frost on Valles Marineris is beautiful this time of year.

"Corporations and PRIVATE companies exploiting space???? How will we control them?? They’ll steal all the space"

Well that is easy. The UN must pass a treaty declaring that no one can own Martian land or mineral rights. The entire planet must be preserved as an international sanctuary to prevent it from being exploited for profit.

It would be wrong to disturb the pristine environment of Mars and disrupt the natural evolution of that planet.

We've been to Mars already, at least according to Sheila Jackass Lee, ((DEMOCRAT)) from Texas...

Sheila Jackson Lee
Member of the U.S. House
of Representatives
from Texas's 18th district

On a visit to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 2005, Jackson Lee made embarrassing news by asking if the Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong.[2]

Prior to the 110th Congress, Jackson Lee served on the House Science Committee and on the Subcommittee that oversees space policy and NASA.

Mrs. FD and I continue to discuss why they didn't space or at least strand Dr. Smith.

Gene Hunt will be needed to keep all the exploiters of space honest or sort of anyway.

There are serious problems to human space travel.

Radiation is dangerous, not to mention that the vacuum and cold of space is a tad inhospitable.

Also, the costs to create livable space ships and bases are rather high.

But, a solution could be Robot Avatars with high definition sensory interface with human operators.

This way you could explore the surface of the moon or other planets without danger and experience it as if you were there.

Even the sense of touch could be replicated and the interface could be linked directly to your thoughts by brain wave reading devices.

But, the time it takes to send radio signals from earth to Mars and back is 14 minutes (unless sending signals through quantum time travel is developed).

So, even with avatars we would need some kind of hospital base on the surface or in orbit.

Create a comfortable domed city, then use robot avatars to explore.

Space tourism on Mars would be nice.

The Olympus Mons peak is 14 miles high!

Holy crap I remember that. Is that beyond the beyond in pathetic or what? Subcommittee that oversees space policy and NASA. Hey it could have been worse, she could have said the flag planted by Louis Armstrong. Freakin’ libs. That is *almost* as pathetic as when they put Jamie Gorelick on the 911 commission. “Why did 911 happen?” Look in the mirror bitch.
