Agreed. I wasn’t much of a Bee Gees fan back in my younger days (although I did like Stayin’ Alive), but I’d much rather today listen to any of their music over any of today’s garbage.

It has been said that those who are at deaths door then improve, die suddenly.

It happened to my mother in law last year.

Ugh...brutal.

I wasn't around then, so please let me enjoy a few minutes of ignorance.

Although I suspect many of the icky diseases you mentioned weren't “main stream” in the 70’s.

A lot of diseases were present but as yet unisolated and identified.

“Black syphilis” had come back with Vietnam veterans, and certainly military personnel were made aware of its presence in red light establishments in liberty briefings.

Very sad.

The Bee Gees made some great music, there is much more to them than the (great) disco-era stuff, especially the lean period of 1969-75, where they made some really great soul and pop music, which didnt sell. They could do pop, acid pop, disco, soul, funk.

BBC Radio 2 did a fantastic series last year about how they constructed their sound, esp the 70’s and disco era.

And Robin has done a huge amount for the British armed
forces in terms of charity.

Only big brother Barry left now out of four brothers, all three dead well before their time. Very sad.

Everybody in music seems to be dying. At this rate, there will soon be no more music being made. When will the madness end? Now we have Barry Gibb joining brother Maurice as “Spirits Haven Flown” meaning 2/3 of the Bee Gees are gone, gone, gone. Not to mention even littler brother Andy who is “Shadow Dancing” no more.

Donna Summer is no longer “Working Hard For Her Money” and both McFadden & Whitehead were stopped after all. MCA of Beastie Boys is no longer fighting for his right to party and Greg Ham will no longer be hamming it up with Colin Hay of Men at Work.

The madness goes on and on, Levon Helm (The Band), Dick Clark, Robbie Montrose, Davy of the Monkees went to Davy Jones Locker, Whitney Houston “drowned” and Don Cornelius, Don Kirshner, Jimmy Castor and now Dobie Gray has “Drifted Away” for good.

Yes, the “Great Gig In The Sky” is getting bigger all the time and Syd Barrett finally has somebody up there as crazy as him - Amy Winehouse. Hopefully the “Big Man” Clarence Clemons is keeping them both mesmerized and out of trouble with his sax solos.

It is insane how many rock/pop starts have passed on. Gerry Rafferty, Doug Fieger of The Knack, Dale Hawkins, Teddy Pendergrass, Isaac Hayes, Ike Turner and Juice Newton, just to name a few more who are dead, dead, dead.

John Stewart is no longer turning music into “Gold” and Dan Fogelberg is no longer sharing six-packs in the car with people he used to know - in the snow. Brad Delp is gone and now we have to really wait a long time for the next Boston album. 3/4 of the Mamas & Papas are dead - Denny Doherty, John Phillips and Mama Cass - who really should have given that ham sandwich to Karen Carpenter. James Brown is no longer the hardest working man in show business and the Man in Black, Johnny Cash, is no longer shooting people just to watch them die.

Barry White, John Entwistle, Rick James, Joe Strummer, most of the Ramones and half the Beatles are dead. Benjamin Orr of The Cars is driving no more. Ian Dury is gone but not sure about the Blockheads. Sonny Bono, John Denver, Frank Zappa, Warren Zevon and even Tiny Tim, poor innocent Tiny Tim, all dead, dead, dead. When will the madness end!

Jim Croce.

I am feeling very old tonight. I still say the 70s had the best music ever. I always tell my kids they won’t have any oldies to enjoy because they won’t be able to stand their music when they are old.

That’s an odd comment. How many Beach Boys are there, and “Bill Haley’s Comets” - just who are they without Bill Haley?
