Of course, there's another side to that. Sometimes posts here are somewhat extreme, but the moderators seem to do a good job taking care of those.
My preferred candidate in this election was Herman Cain. Imagine my chagrin as I basically found out he's a serial ... well, douche and philanderer.
I still think he's brilliant.
Conservatives really didn't have a dog in the race. I think that many prospective candidates didn't bother because they felt Obama would be unbeatable and they didn't want the media proctology exam that they would be subject to.
I didn't post much, but I watched as people here tore each other a new one over things that they shouldn't have. The difference between Bachmann and Santorum wasn't that much, but freepers got in fights about it.
The Paulbots are a different breed, but Paul (aside from being like Jeff Dunham's Norman puppet) has some good ideas.
It seemed, though, that people here just got MAD.
I understand. Obama...to put it nicely... is a turd with sharp cutting edges.
We all know what he is and what we are facing... but it turned around in 2010 and it did so because Tea Partiers and conservatives made their voices heard. Some democrats JOINED us.
I think those people are still out there. That's what Mitt has to fear. He needs to assure voters that he supports conservative fiscal ideals.
But Mitt will also win over some middle and middle left people.
It's a shame that people will be ripping each other apart over this. Honestly...we can't do that anymore. It's over. It is time for the 11th commandment.

So...we all contact Romney and make our expectations known and we fight for conservative Congressmen/women and Senators where we are.
Hopefully, Free Republic becomes a place, again, where everyone can speak their mind and not be jumped on for recognizing the reality that Romney is going to be the nominee.
I honestly love this place and the people I have become close to.

The American people have made their expectations known for many years, regarding much smaller government, secured borders, end subsiding millions of illegals, less taxes, less controlling, intrusive government etc.
We got none of that Julie. Just the opposite in fact.
I'm on board with what you're saying, WJ. As long as Romney continues to run as something of a fiscal/social conservative (against Obamacare, abortion, and same-sex marriage), if he can reassure us of that, he will have my vote. Even though I don't fully trust him, I expect him to be much better than Obama.
And I have not been happy to see so many longtime conservative FReepers get run off or leave, when they were clearly not DU-type disruptor trolls. In most cases it was a difference in strategy, not philosophy, that led to the departure. The FRiendly atmosphere here has deteriorated over the past months. I'm glad there's a truce now, and I hope some of our old FRiends can be welcomed back.
we have only ourselves to blame. we allowed Romney to split the conservative vote. Now we have to deal with it. So, as much as I hate Romney, I remain comitted to eliminating the democratic infestation in congress and the whitehouse and that means I have to vote for him. I doubt that I will ever like the guy but, to be honest, I haven’t liked a US President since Reagan.
BTW, if you have to tell, beg and or demand a candidate supports smaller government, secured borders, end subsiding millions of illegals, less taxes, less controlling intrusive government etc., why in tarnation would you even want or vote for that candidate?
