Neil Armstrong's Corvette lands on eBay

It didn’t go to the Moon, but it sure looks like it did.

A 1967 Chevrolet Corvette once owned by Neil Armstrong is being auctioned on eBay.

The blue coupe sat unused in a garage since 1981, before being purchased by its current owner in February of this year. It’s in barely running condition, but is mostly original. Aside from a new carburetor, water pump, muffler and wheels, the only major modification is a set of poorly done fender flares.

The fully-documented ‘Vette has a 390 hp 427 cubic-inch V8 running through a four-speed manual transmission and, fitting of a Florida car, factory air conditioning as well as power windows. The odometer shows just 38,148 miles, but as it only has five digits and hasn’t worked since the 1970’s, there’s no telling how much mileage the car really has on it.

According to the seller, the yet-to-be-first man on the Moon took delivery of the ‘Vette in December of 1966 as part of a special program run by Melbourne Chevrolet dealer, Jim Rathman. The enterprising salesman used to offer astronauts a special one year lease deal on ‘Vettes so they would always be seen behind the wheel of the latest model. One of his employees bought the car in 1968 when it was turned in for trade.

Here is the EBay link.

Someone was trying to do some real hillbilly stuff with the fender flares. The owner claims it was in a climate controlled building since ‘81. Who cares. That 15 years before were a real hard ride. At least it looks like most of it is there.

Used toilet paper from the 60s belonging to Neil Armstrong would probably bring serious money. The sky is the limit for this car.

The seller is going to have to add a few more things for sell if he wants Frank to bundle it.

Frank: “What would you have to have for something like this?”

Seller: “You mean this or something LIKE this.”

A quarter mil for a rusty ol' vette that Neil Armstrong leased for a year? LOL!

On a related note, did anyone ever buy the Chrysler 500 that Obama drove before he found it politically expedient to own a hybrid?

My brother had a little bit later model kind of like that. I don’t remember that ram-air thingy on the hood though.

The 300 never sold. The owner wanted 1 million. After Nov, it will be worth less than Blue Book.

Fiberglass rusts? We didn't cover that in culinary school.

The hood scoop was a first time option in '67. It didn't matter what engine you had, you could get it because it was an appearance option.

The little known secret about Vettes is that they can be rust buckets and the buyer thinking it is a plastic car never bothers to look. There are all sorts of metal screws holding panels together and other structural pieces underneath that can be expensive to fix.

I've have a brother that collects them and restores them. I'm aware. They don't rust like my 69' 240Z.

That front left corner took a good hit and it has the overall appearance of a beater. If it were a ‘67 Chevy II 4 door that was originally owned by Neil Friedricks, it would be a $200 parts car. That is going to be a very expensive restoration.
