Looks like I'm going to be going to Panama City FL on business and have to stay overnight. Unfortunately I won't get to go to the beach! :-( The closest hotel to where I'm going looks to be the Wingate in Lynn Haven. It seems to have good reviews on line. Is this a decent part of town for a woman alone? Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks!
Hell no! Pc is a dump...
Thank you very much and I have bookmarked that site. Tells me exactly what I needed to know.
Taking Google Maps down to street level and just looking around helps too.
Panama City is like any other Beach Community along the redneck riviera; well, maybe a little bit more redneck. As long as you are not walking the strip alone at night you will be fine. I am sure the Hotel people can direct you to a nice place to eat without having some hormone raging youngster trying to hump your leg while you eat.
The beach is ok. Once you cross the bridge, you are in a third world meth community that smells like a paper mill.
The Wingate is about 2 miles from my house. It’s not in an exciting, high tourism part of the county, but it’s on a major road and is fairly new and looks nice on the outside. Most of the crazy is confined to the beach area, I wouldn’t expect any serious crime around the Wingate.
Be careful with that link at #2. I plugged in my town and the color code is the exact opposite of what it should be.
The country club area is shown as highest crime and MLK Blvd is shown as lowest crime.
Only someone from P'cola would make a statment like that.
I stay at that very hotel every time I go see my parents. Never had any issues. It has indoor swimming pool and a heated indoor jazucci also. Rooms were always nice and had free breakfast.
I also will be staying there again in May when I see my parents again.
Im in Tallahassee(the 8th most dangerous city in the nation). But I did work at the Back Porch in 2009 and met some true trailer trash). Probably the most stagnant economy in the state.
Problem is, I remember that the FIRST time around!
Thanks! Always good to get a first-hand recommendation.
Thanks! I do speak redneck as a second language, so I should be o.k. :-D
Thanks! If I were staying longer I would definitely consider it!
Atlanta seems to be about right.
