'Titanic' Theme Song Makes Me Want To Throw Up, Kate Winslet Says

By Rene Lynch April 15, 2012

And the Oscar for the most refreshingly candid actress goes to ... "Titanic" star Kate Winslet!

Check out the above video of Winslet making the media rounds in advance of the re-release of "Titanic," the mega-blockbuster that made her a household name and earned her an Academy Award nomination for best actress. Winslet had two options going into this interview. She could have done the whole Hollywood-smiley-face thing and gushed on and on about how the 1997 movie changed her life, about how much she loves it, about the on-screen magic she shared with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio ... blah, blah, blah.

Or Winslet could have told it like it is.

Winslet said that she feels "like throwing up" when she hears the soaring theme song of "Titanic." In fact, she said, the signature Celine Dion ballad "haunts" her.

"I wish I could say, 'Oh listen everybody! It's the Celine Dion song!' But I don't. I just have to sit there, you know, kinda straight-faced, with a massive internal eye roll," she said.

It's no wonder she feels that way: "My Heart Will Go On" follows Winslet wherever she goes.

"Every time I go into either some kind of a bar in a hotel where there's a live pianist or into a restaurant where they are changing their music according to who walks in the door ... it's thrilling for people to 'surprise' me with the Celine Dion song," she said. (snip)

"It rather haunts me," she said of the song. "Bless you, Celine, but it does rather haunt me."

She is what my mother would have called an ingrate.

And your mother would have been correct.

If poor baby Kate Winslet gets so upset about a movie song, perhaps she should leave films and get a job as a waitress or a taxi driver.

Onoz. I remember that song.

“You light up my life”.

The first 10 times faded into the invasion of the body snatchers 10,000, and I was reduced to preferential white noise.

Nothing is worse, however, than being anywhere near food when Karen Carpenter comes on. Such a beautiful voice and reputation as a singer all shot to pieces next to a sandwich.

Could of been “Feelings” or “Seasons in the Sun”, too! Or “Maybe, I’m Amazed”! “My Way”?

If only she could have been there to “touch those things!” like she wished for the poor folk. Preferably at a depth of -2000 ft. Sans sub.

"I'm just a regular slob so this concept fascinates me. There are bars, restaurants, hotels which change music according to who is walking in? Where and who? I would think that there are very few people who actually have their own "theme song". "

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I was for a short time a piano player in some of the bars in Cleveland and Columbus Ohio and there were rules for the crowd. Such as when the gray haired clientele was in the bar/club you stuck to waltzes and big band era stuff. Where as the Narrow Tie crowd being young career types (it was the early 80s) out for some warm up activity before heading to the hot spots you played lots of Billy Joel etc.

And if a regular walked in (wanting his tonic and gin [/Piano Man]} You would do well to break into the Song He requested most. Cause he'd get a drink from the Bar and put Bread in your Jar, And say, "Man, what are you doin' here?" (With Apologies to Mr. Joel)

Its all about connecting with the customers and good Bar Musicians and Bar Managers have known such for years.

For instance You've got a choice between a really good local Bar Band who can play anything you want but the people that tend to appreciate them are older and don't stay as late and don't spend much on booze. OR you can get the New Local band that barely can stay on the beat let alone in tune but they are loud AND all the girls in the area are totally in love with the lead singer which brings in the hot chicks which brings in the guys who buy lots of drinks and hang around all night trying to get laid.

Just a matter of Bar economics.

Very cute. My nephew and his friends post lots of 30 minute films. Usually involving zombies.

Or give a whopping inheritance to your granddaughter. (so she wouldnt have to work as a seamstress lol) If she had tried to sell it, would the insurance company that paid Nathan Hockley for its “loss” be able to come after her for a reimubursement? Statute of limitations I would think. That was nauseating to see that thing splash.

She made a fortune on the misery of 1500 people and their families.

A little gratitude would be in order.

BTW, I’d make her go down to -2.5 miles with James Cameron.
I watched his 2 hour special on the Titanic and he ruined it with globaloney warming nonsense in the last two minutes.

Sub would be optional.

Babs Streisand

What! You don't have any "Feelings" for her?

The Cure for Mecha-Streisand is Robert Smith.../South Park

When Kate Winslet was having her topless portrait painted, I kinda forgot what music was playing in the background, I guess my mind was focused on erect nipples.

My bad!

“Please Mister Please”. That song got stuck in my head for some reason one night and kept me awake almost until the alarm went off. I don’t EVER want to hear that song again! (Unfortunately it is on the Muzak rotation at work and I can’t avoid it)

She shouldn’t be acting too cool for titanic. If she weren’t in this movie no one would even know who she is.

When Titanic first came out, I memorized this song and sang it to my 11 year old and her friends in my best Donald Duck voice. It brought them all to tears (of laughter, naturally).

I LOVE Kate Winslet. What a refreshingly candid person, very honest. And gorgeous.

I suspect she is also very conservative in her beliefs, based on what I've seen and heard about her beliefs about relationships, raising children, etc.

As for songs about muskrats, I prefer this one:
