We should have taken that baby out right on the launch pad, along with all the visiting “dignitaries” in the observation bleachers.

Too bad... it was launched south and over the ocean. I guess the Japanese won’t get a crack at it.

Good, maybe this means we won’t send them any food/fuel aid for another year or so.
Though if I had to guess, NK will do exactly what they want, the US/SKorea/Japan will whine about it, NK will laugh at us, NK will then hint about returning to the peace table, the US government will call that a diplomatic success and offer to resume sending freebies. All tremendously predictable.

Dear Kim Jong Not Ill:
I am writing this sternly worded letter to express my displeasure with your rocket launch. As a severe sanction, all of us who are members of the United Nations will wag our fingers in a tsk-tsk motion in your general direction tomorrow at noon. That will teach you not to do this again!
Signed,
Barack 0bama
P.S. Couldn't you at least have waited until after my election when I'll have more flexibility to shrug and ignore this kind of stuff? It's golf season.

How does scrapping missile defense make big ears look good? Or signing an agreement with the NORKS to provide food aid in exchange for curtailing their nuke development and missile development programs?
Better shut down that food aid to them now since they have effectively violated the agreement.

So NK allowed reporters into the country... to for what? NOT watch the launch? To repeat propaganda? Doesn’t the AP already have a deal to repeat KCNA proaganda?

Meh, Fox is reporting that the launch may have failed anyway.
Assuming that is true, this is like the 3rd or 4th time the Norks have tried this and they still can’t get a long range multi-stage rocket to work. I guess they’ll still learn from failure and try to get it right next time.
If this did fail though, I wonder if it makes it more likely the Norks test another nuke. Maybe they’ll feel they need to save face.

Even if it totally fizzled, it’s still significant cuz it shows how serious the Norks are about actively proliferating, probably with tacit Chinese approval.
What will they do as a response? Only stuff to the extent it will make Obama look tough and serious.
So on the substantive side NOTHING.
2 speeches and stern letters galore for the presstitutes.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we somehow managed to shoot it down? We do have military capabilities/assets that are not publicly discussed. Our enemies should keep that in mind if they are thinking about messing with us or our allies.
