Nine thousand Nazi war criminals fled to South America after the Second World War, it has been revealed for the first time.

After receiving tip-offs, German prosecutors were recently granted access to secret files in Brazil and Chile that confirmed the true number of Third Reich immigrants.

According to the documents, an estimated 9,000 war criminals escaped to South America, including Croatians, Ukrainians, Russians and other western Europeans who aided the Nazi murder machine.

Most, perhaps as many as 5,000, went to Argentina; between 1,500 and 2,000 are thought to have made it to Brazil; around 500 to 1,000 to Chile; and the rest to Paraguay and Uruguay.

These numbers do not include several hundred more who fled to the safety of right-wing regimes in the Middle East.

Previous estimates as to how many Nazis fled to South America have varied wildly from 5,000 to 300,000.

The files also showed that during the war Argentine President General Juan Peron sold 10,000 blank Argentine passports to ODESSA – the organisation set up to protect former SS men in the event of defeat.

Kurt Schrimm, 62, head of the central war criminal authority in Germany, is among the legal team sifting through archives.

He said: 'These documents provide the hottest leads we have had for years.'

Mr Schrimm said a female historian provided the clues about the Nazis who got away, who included Holocaust mastermind Adolf Eichmann, Auschwitz doctor Josef Mengele and Treblinka death camp commander Franz Stangl

I have yet to see a single list, secret or otherwise, of Communist War Criminals from during WWII and up to today. Perhaps the Kommisars are politically protected as they are the cadre teaching political indoctrination and butchery to the current agents in Western governments.

Ummm the Communists specifically the USSR were on the winning side in WWII, that's why there is no WWII Communist war criminal list. Now are there Communists who are the equivalent of Nazi war criminals? Heck yes, just about every retired NKVD (later called the KGB) internal directorate officer and Gulag commander. Most of them unfortunately are living their retirements and dreaming about Stalin and the good old days.

Also we don’t have hours of visual footage of Communist atrocities, like we do with the Nazi atrocities.

It should also be noted that many German POWs interred in the US during the war liked what they had seen, and wanted to emigrate to the US as well, and did.

I had a retired U.S. Marine friend who did join up after his release here in the states. He was a German infantryman during WWII and saw action in Russia during Operation Barbarossa. His prior cold weather training saved many lives up near the Chosin Reservoir.

True the Nazi's being German were anal enough to document it all. Plus their concentration camps got overrun and there was further documentation done by the Western Allies. (The Russian Communists documented Nazi horror only when they had a propaganda point to make!) Who over ran the Gulags?
As the worst part of that system got shut down, the horror and the injustice disappears into the dust of history.

It is the same in China and North Korea, we get incredible second hand tales of horror occasionally eyewitnesses, but no documented WWII-like scenes of horror, hard to bring anybody to justice with that. Besides who is the sovereign power over China & North Korea who could do it? The UN? Hah I want them to have less power and influence! Those mouth breathers already think that have some de facto sovereignty over the USA! Never !

In the whole scheme of things, the Soviets (especially under Stalin) killed tens of millions more people than Hitler ever did. Somehow, the Soviets got away with it. Even nowadays in history textbooks.

The Communists are responsible for more murders than the Nazis, and a large number of Communists with blood on their hands are still walking around. For some reason, nobody shows much interest in hunting them down.

I think Poland has tried going after some of them. Recently hungarians passed some laws stating that communism is a criminal enterprise and revoked statutes of limitations for communist crimes. The new conservative hungarian constitution is worth reading.

Much more could be done worldwide, of course. The crimes of communists are so numerous and so appalling (think Katyn) that it boggles the mind.
