Concord Woman Named 'Extreme Huntress 2012'

Woman won online essay contest and popular vote

A Bay Area woman has just claimed an award even she didn't expect: Extreme Huntress of 2012.

Think of it as the "Miss America" of the hunting community. It's a big deal.

Concord resident Tiffany Brewer recently won the nationwide contest, sponsored by Tahoe Films and Tom Opre, host of the NBC Sports outdoors show "Eye of the Hunter." Entrants had to submit a 500-word essay on why they considered themselves the Extreme Huntress. Ten finalists were chosen based on their essays, then it was up to popular online vote to determine the winner.

Brewer, 42, tells the Bay Area News Group she didn't even know much about the competition before she entered. She certainly didn't expect to become a finalist when she submitted her essay.

Sure enough, a few months later she was notified that she had become a finalist. That's when she started to realize that she might have a chance at winning. Brewer's competitive instinct kicked in, and she started looking for votes.

She enlisted the help of friends, family and coworkers to gather votes in the contest. In early January, she was named the Extreme Huntress 2012.

Brewer is an E.R. nurse at Alameda County Medical Center. She says her love of hunting began in her native Texas, where she learned to hunt with her brother. She killed her first deer when she was just nine years old, and she's been hunting ever since. Brewer says she still goes on a yearly hunting trip with her brother, who still lives in Texas.

I have a feeling she's also an odds-on favorite for Miss Free Republic 2012!

Front page pic and article in today’s Contra Costa Times. Odd that the Bay Airheads would give any positive news about such a politically incorrect (for here) activity. Especially given all the crap about the state Fish & Game Commissioner who was “caught” hunting mountain lions in Idaho, where the practice is 100% legal.

I read that story in the Merc this morning and said to myself “there’s no way she’s from around here.” Sure enough, I read on and she moved here from Texas 2 years ago where she learned to hunt deer at age 9.
