Newt Gingrich Tuesday called on President Barack Obama to apologize for a joke that actor Robert De Niro made at a New York fundraiser for the president on Monday night hosted by Michelle Obama.
According to published reports, De Niro listed the wives of the GOP candidates, then asked the star-studded crowd: "Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?" He added: "Too soon, right?"
Gingrich slammed De Niro's remarks, saying the "country is ready for a new first lady, and he doesn't have to describe it in racial terms."

It sounds kind of funny to me too. I certainly wouldn’t be offended by such a thing.

They're just not that funny to me.
Now that we've got a black President and first lady, he's just reversing it in a mildly amusing way. It would have been funnier if he'd said something like, "A white President? That's absurd." But whatever, it was a joke.
It would be like saying, " I don't think America is ready for a white Heavyweight boxing champion." (because they're all black, get it? Rim shot)
It's not the funniest joke ever told, but I don't think Mr. Moon President should have made a big deal out of it. People shouldn't take themselves so seriously.
To me, it seems Deniro is saying that he doesn’t want another “white” First Lady. Not surprising, since his choice of the ladies is of the darker persuasion. And he’s a Socialist Obama sycophant. Anything else?
Still don’t think it’s “funny”. We’ve already had “white” first ladies. Someone might need to clue crazy Bobby in on that. Not funny. He should have said something like, “I don’t think America is ready for an illegal alien first lady with a stolen I.D.”. Now that’s funny.

Newt’s trying to turn the tables on the libs when moments of exploitable faux-outrage are identified.
I think Newt is running up against a couple problems with this tactic:
1. Conservatives aren’t so easily outraged and could really care less.
2. Conservatives aren’t typically drama-queens and generally do not play games like the left’s favorite “faux-outrage” game.
I’m reading those poo-poo’ing Newts attempt to make some hay out of this and I can’t help but think there is someone on Newt’s team wishing conservatives would read between the lines and jump on the righteous-indignation, faux-outrage bandwagon with Newt and start demanding apologies, boycotts, etc. all around.
I just don’t think that’s what conservatives would do for such a laughably trivial matter.
Well, fine. But being “not funny” isn’t exactly a crime, nor does it require a formal apology from the White House.
The US of A should have a black First Lady. Her name is Gloria Cain.
And for that, we would be getting a real twofer. Herman Cain as President would be a REAL change.
What the heck, Alma Powell would have been a darned good First Lady, but then, we would have to deal with Colin Powell, definitely not the most conservative of potential candidates.
But infinitely superior to what we now have.
