Sarah Palin in Washington DC, closing speech at CPAC this weekend--Will she endorse Newt soon?
February 6, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

Posted on 02/07/2012 8:38:17 AM PST by mitchell001

Sarah Palin is traveling to Washington DC to CPAC this weekend. Will she find time to endorse and campaign with Newt Gingrich during this trip away from Alaska? Sarah's endorsement would give Newt the well-deserved boost with the Tea Party people across the country. Palin's endorsement could also convince the American people that Rick Santorum is not in the same league as the Conservative Rock Star, Newt Gingrich. Sarah would be able to clarify for the majority of the American conservatives that Newt is a treasure for the American Conservative movement and for the mission of speaking the truth about America's values, principles and goals. Do my fellow freepers think that Sarah Palin will endorse and campaign with Newt leading up to the all-important Super Tuesday contests on March 6th?

Sarah’s operating capital is, pfffft. If it’s low risk, or no risk, then count her in. She will dish the platitudes to exhaustion, otherwise, please recall my fame of yesterday and flog that for a pass time. Her trademarked toast is burned. And permanently. Had her number from the first interview forward. The knowledge depth of a sheet of paper.

Newt is one of the most flawed (in so many ways) Presidential candidates ever. He has no chance of being elected.

Truer words I haven't read! Santorum has a real chacne to change the race tonight and I hope to God he does!

THOUGHT PEOPLE FROM THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT WOULD RISE UP IN DROVES FOR NEWT. PEOPLE WITH WHOM HE WORKED WITH.

They're the people who know him best. Their silence speaks volumes.

“Palin’s endorsement could also convince the American people that Rick Santorum is not in the same league as the Conservative Rock Star Gingrich”

Who told you that? Gingrich trails women voters by 20-points, has massive unfavorability ratings, no Gallup poll so far has shown him beating Obama (unlike Santorum), he’s definitely un-telegenic, and has a $1.6m Freddy Mac albatross around his neck, lost to Romney in Florida across the board with all major demographics, supported cap-and-trade, TARP, and assailed the Ryan Plan to reform Medicare, wrote a paper supporting the individual health mandate, and he’s a “rock star”?

She backed away from Newt pretty hard on Gretavision last night.

I just listened to the Greta interview. At no point did Sarah back off Newt. She spoke in measured tones.

Sarah railed against Mitt the most.

Sarah said more positive things about Newt than the others. Sarah said that Newt would be the "boldest" contrast against Obama. She spoke with the most enthusiasm when speaking of Newt.

I think before Super Tuesday Sarah will endorse Newt. She has to pick the best time for the greatest impact.

Please tell exactly what you heard that indicates that she backed off from Newt. thanks

Yeah, but they’re not all “silent.” For instance, Dick Armey, Tom DeLay, Tom Coburn, Roy Blunt, Jim Talent — all worked with Newt in the House and all have openly dissed Newt in recent weeks. Tells me a lot about Newt’s inability to govern successfully.

As a political “idea man” and as a debater, Newt is probably the best there is. But his personal indiscipline and his lack of managerial skills, not to mention his 60% national disapproval rate, mean there’s zero chance he could ever beat Zerobama.

And about $200,000 of that “albatross” seems to have been spent at Tiffany’s, so that Callista could have something to wear around HER neck. It’s great to be rich!

I predict that Palin will use this weekend's speech to jump into this race and become a formal candidate for president.

Hey, I predicted the Patriots would win the Super Bowl Sunday night so like the flip of coin, I figure I'm due to be right next time around.

I don’t know if she will or won’t endorse - I don’t think it *should* matter. Point being: Newt needs to get this done without Palin’s help.

Why would any candidate need a crutch? I’m not saying they shouldn’t welcome endorsements from anyone (Palin or otherwise), just that they need to be able to carry their own weight.

The sad part is that this implies there are voters out there, undecided, wavering, or clueless and are looking for a celebrity to tell them how to vote. Come to think of it, that may explain why the country is in the shape it’s in.

The problem is everyone knows Newt is more conservative than Romney. The Florida polls showed that. In some states that works but in others it doesn’t. He’s losing badly to women because women are moderate on abortion and gay marriage. Palin doesn’t help him broaden his base in the primary, which is what he needs to be more competitive with Romney in the moderate states going forward like Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Santorum factor is a whole ‘nother story and I have no idea how he competes with Santorum other than by doing a better job dressing down Obama in the debates. We don’t have another debate for over 2 weeks though.

He definitely has to back off calling Romney a moderate or liberal. Everyone knows that now and he can’t make any more gains that way. He has to attack Romney on electability, but subtly. I think he needs to show how he can do a better job attacking Obama than anyone else. Be strong against Obama, but work in subtle references that indicate “the other guys wouldn’t say what I’m saying” along the way.

Then how did he train Santorum and a whole generation of up-and-coming conservatives through GOPAC? How did he engineer the takeover of the House in 1994 after 4 decades out of power? How did he as a back-bencher get the Republican platform pushed to the right under Reagan? How did he work with a Democrat Bill Clinton and help create 11 million jobs, pass welfare reform, balance the budget, create a surplus, get tax cuts, etc.? Have those guys you mentioned achieved more in Congress since Newt left in 1999 than Newt did when he led?

It’s already been shown how most of those “dissing” Newt have been on record praising him just a couple years ago. What’s going on now is all political, it isn’t truth. Everyone should know you don’t look to any politicians for truth and honesty, ever. Not when backroom deals and payoffs are the name of the game, and Romney is proven to have done countless ones. All we can look to is their records. Their actions speak louder than their words. And that’s where Newt outclasses the whole lot of them six ways from Sunday. We should be looking back to what Newt did for us and the country, not for his buddies in Congress.

Maybe not. But it’s altogether beside the point as far as I’m concerned. No bearing on the logic of the matter. Not apposite, as they say in the courtroom.

The bottom line for me is is that those GOP leaders and former leaders are smarter than me, and they know Newt “up close and personal” — which is the kind of knowledge I could never have. So when somebody with the stature and experience of a Tom Coburn says he can’t support Newt, then I probably shouldn’t need a lot of additional info.

I’m not sure she wants to endorse with Santorum still in the race. I think that she is not so pro-Newt as she is anti-romney. Therefor she has tried to give the person polling closest to romney a boost. She is taking heat on the web for being as pro-Newt as she has been.

And here’s just an example of the “integrity” and trust you can put in the statements of some of these people who claim to “know Newt best...”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2843674/posts

And if you don’t think one or the other was bought off somehow, wouldn’t you want them to give you specifics? Don’t you get suspicious when you ask them why Newt was so terrible, and they can’t explain to you why? It makes me think some just have a personal grudge, over something like Newt changing the way positions were granted in the House to not be by seniority anymore, or maybe some pet project of theirs that Newt canned. The massive grudge that Bush, Sr. and Sununu have over Newt opposing their 1990s tax hike should open anyone’s eyes as to how deep and personal some people take political disagreements that to the rest of us are ancient history. As for me, I’d trust what Newt says about them much more than I’d trust what they say about Newt. I saw that Newt wanted to change things to better serve the American public and I know that would have caused great opposition, because there were reasons the status quo was what it was...the powers-that-be liked it that way.

So much for Senator Coburn’s “stature...”

http://newsok.com/sen.-tom-coburn-defends-relationship-with-obama-at-edmond-town-hall-meeting/article/3646420

Coburn was questioned why he voted Thursday against a bill intended to prevent members of Congress, their top aides and administration officials from using nonpublic information for insider trading. New disclosure requirements will require public reports online within 30 days of buying and selling stock.

Coburn, one of three to vote against the measure, said the bill was merely an attempt to help members of Congress improve in poll approval ratings that have fallen to the teens.

He said he doesn’t know if any congressional member had violated any trading laws.

“The facts aren’t all in yet,” he said.
