It's with deep sadness that we bring to you the news of the passing of Bill Hinzman this evening. We've lost another icon of the industry and more importantly one of the nicest and most genuine people we've ever had the chance of knowing.

Best known to fans everywhere as Zombie #1 or the Graveyard Zombie from the George A. Romero classic Night of the Living Dead, Hinzman has died after losing a bout with cancer. He was 75.

Winners at life...

You only live twice
or so it seems
one life for yourself
and one for your dreams...

Night of the Living Dead also featured Bill Cardille...

... but who remembers 'Tarantula'?

First saw “Night of the Living Dead” when I was 9 years old when my older brother and I snuck into an indy theater one night.

We made it about 70% of the way through - finally I said to my brother “This is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better”.

And his response showed he was thinking ahead “We have to bicycle past FOUR graveyards on our way home!”

We were OUT OF THERE!!!!

To this day my brother says he assesses every domicile he resides in for “Zombie defensibility”.

A great job by everyone involved in that cinematic masterpiece! My thanks to the recently departed - your memory - like a flesh eating zombie - will live on after you die. ;)

Oh I remember him, R.I.P.

I use to really like those zombie movies but that’s no longer the case. Too bad I’m passing up that made for TV AMC zombie show. Friends say it’s a must see...

If y'all want a treat, go and get the remastering of the original Night of the Living Dead with Michael Nelson's (MST3K) commentary.

Thanks to Doomonyou for the ping.

“This is going to get a lot worse before it gets any better”.

That is classic allmendream!!!

That movie messed me up too. Basement at 10pm watching it first time. The older “cool” kids told me it was going to be rough but who knew how many bad dreams this B&W movie would spawn.

When my dad took me to see Halloween, after the movie we got home, it was around 9pm. Dad goes in the house, I have to spend the longest 5 minutes alone outside taking out the garbage.

RandallFlagg, regarding the remastering, any more info? I’m not too hot on commentary but is the remastered DVD sharper images or extra footage?

Sorry. I meant to say colorized version. Not remastered.

BEST show on TV. The mid-season starts up again on Sunday; we’ve been watching DVRd episodes just because we need our Walking Dead fix.
