SIG SAUER Introduces 1911 Fastback

With the introduction of the 1911 pistol in 2006, SIG SAUER has been building the finest, production 1911-platform pistols available.

By combining modern refinements in the classic American design, SIG SAUER has created 1911s that are as accurate as they are combat- reliable.

This innovation is continued with the new Fastback series of 1911s. SIG SAUER engineers have redesigned the frame and mainspring housing to create a proprietary rounded backstrap, giving the Fastback a distinctive look and advantage for concealed carry...

I am not sure as to the validity of the opening claim. The Kimber Customs are phenomenal 1911s, and I am fairly certain the Custom IIs have the (generally held) distinction of being "the finest, production 1911-platform pistols available." Maybe I am wrong. Nice piece in any case, although I predict the "two-tone" slider trend in autos won't last long.

I know I’m committing blasphemy when it comes to the firearms world, but I’ve never been a big fan of the 1911 type handguns. I do have a huge amount of respect for what they are though. They just don’t ‘fit’ my hands well. ....And this is coming from someone who’s favorite handgun is the HK USP45 Tactical(NOT a small gun).

The question is not just how they fit your hands when you are drawing or aiming, I think it’s also how they feel as they are discharged. 1911s are weighty and a little front-heavy, which tends to help with keeping the big .45 on target. There are 1911 variations chambered for 9mm, and I have never fired one, but I doubt I would have much use for them. In the 9mm realm one doesn’t need so much weight up front. That said, for personal protection and home defense, the revolver really is a perfect weapon. It is inherently safe and can sleep loaded for months or years... And in a panic in the dark where milliseconds count you won’t need to fiddle with a safety. And - should six .357 rounds fail to eliminate your immediate threat, never mind higher capacity: you probably shouldn’t own a handgun anyway!

IF.....you really want a .45 for concealed carry, look no further than the latest Glock 30. Fantastic handgun.

Virtually no recoil. Not many people are big enough to adequately conceal a 1911; way too damned big. Like a previous poster here, 1911’s are far too large for my hand (I have stubby fingers; what can I say....), but the Glock 30 fits my hand perfectly.

Blasphemer!!!!! How could you? That crummy HK frame might blow apart in your hand!!!! /sarc...no really shoot what you feel comfortable with as long as its .45 auto....

I have a little .357 Ruger six shooter for that very reason. Also terrific for conceal carry, and to keep in the car.

I have a Taurus .357 and am displeased with it. Every once in awhile it seems to “miss,” and I have never been able to figure out why. I cycle through (another great advantage of revolvers... You need only one hand to cycle through...) but there seems to be something fundamentally wrong design wise with the piece. I would like to purchase a Ruger SP101 next I am stateside... I am thrilled with my Ruger 30-06 Mark 77, my Ruger .22 mini carbine, and my Ruger Red Label 12ga over-under! Also please send a mini-30 for the Holidays!

I carry a Kimber Custom or Custom II every day, and my wife has a Kimber Pro Carry II in 9mm.
I won't say it's the "finest" 1911 I've shot, but it's utterly reliable.
Found some pics of the SIG "fastback" - just a factory bobtail... and they show it with a magazine having a huge base pad. So much for the additional concealability of the "fastback".
LOL!

Dunno about the Fastback, but I'm very pleased with my Sig 1911 Scorpion Carry.

Manufactured in December 2011, this is my "century weapon.

Went to buy a 30. Ended up with a KAHR PM45. Much smaller. Without a doubt a very good concealable .45.

Proprietary rounded backstrap my arse. It's just another bobtail 1911. Dan Wesson and others have been making them for decades.

1911 or 1911A1 is NOT a platform...it is a 100+ year old tradition.

let the AR and M-4 people play legos with their weapons...

a 1911 with non stock sights is the only semblance of ‘platform’ it should have...

THIS is an exact duplicate of MY 1911A1

Love the Dan Wessons. I have several and they are all great weapons. The ability to swap barrels on the revolvers lets me tailor the configuration to the work at hand. The 1911’s function flawlessly.
I’d put ‘em up against most anything out there.

I liked mine so much, when an OD #30 became available locally, I snagged it for my wife. Then the damn canoe flipped...

I'm bummed out -- I just sold my mil-spec 1911. Couldn't afford to shoot it anymore, though, and even if I could finding ammo is sometimes difficult. My wife was also a bit afraid of it.

I now have a tactical 12-guage for HD, and for the range a Walther P22 and a SIG 522. My wife and I both love shooting them -- love 'em -- but miss the sound and feel of my hand cannon...

Have you tried a flat mainspring housing? I have small to medium hands and I put the flat housing on all my 1911’s. I have a Light Weight Commander that feels like it was born in my hand.

"Also please send a mini-30 for the Holidays!"

I'll see what I can arrange. :p

I'd rather get ya a PTR91 over a Mini30. The 7.62x51(.308win) gives you a whole lot more power and reach than with the 7.62x39. Military surplus parts for the PTR91 are highly available and inexpensive(HK91/G3 parts). Then again, ammo for the x39 practically grows on trees, so it's cheap shootin'. PTR91 isn't exactly what I would call a plinker either, if you were just looking for something to have fun with. I totally love mine, but I don't associate it much with 'fun' due to many days with a sore shoulder. lol
