Mexican Soccer Star "El Gato" Arrested in Kidnapping Case

Former Mexican international soccer player Omar "El Gato" Ortiz has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in a major kidnapping ring, Mexican police announced Sunday.

Ortiz, whose nickname means “The Cat,” was accused of aiding a gang which is wanted for the abduction of at least 20 victims, including the husband of Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi, the security spokesman for Nuevo León state, Jorge Domene, told El Universal Saturday.

Wonderful country when the police are the ones who have to wear masks to disguise themselves.

Slightly off topic, but I once had a ‘friend’ / colleague who was originally from Mexico. He constantly criticized the US and propped up Mexico, while he was living in the US receiving grant money from the US government as a minority. On the morning of the first World Trade Center bombing he said ‘It’s about time the US got a taste of its own medicine’. At that point I asked him how he thought things would go if I were to report that comment widely at the granting agency while at the same time making it public. He never commented like that to me again.

Since I'm not Mexican, although I've had 3 Mexican exhange students and have a neice and several grandneices who are of Mexican ancestry, and I weigh something over 360 lbs, and thus am not a soccer/futbol star,
