Meet New York’s newest hero.

Kevin Hiltunen, a former NYPD officer, yesterday grabbed an Occupy Wall Street demonstrator by the collar and dragged him out of a Queens school where he’d been heckling US Rep. Bob Turner at the congressman’s swearing-in ceremony.

“I guess you could say I sorted him out,” said Hiltunen, 48, his jacket and tie barely mussed after dragging the scruffy protester out on his rear end.

“All I was doing was trying to stop this historic occasion from being disrupt-ed. There is a time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights,’’ said Hiltunen, of Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, who was identified by people at the ceremony as an ex-Marine.

No such thing as an “Ex-Marine”. With the exceptions of Scott Ritter, Jack Murtha and James Carville, that is.

We need about 10 million vets grabbing the elites, OWS-street thugs, progressives and other libtards by the collar and tossing them out of the NATION...

Then it would be acceptable to see to it the lawyer would be fitted for their own neck brace.

Semper Fi!

“All I was doing was trying to stop this historic occasion from being disrupt-ed. There is a time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights,’’

Agree, sort of.

In this case, Hiltunen's actions were justified because the OWS douchebag was disrupting a public event, thus falling into the 'shouting fire in a crowded theater' category. But it was certainly not Hiltunen's (or anyone else's) decision to determine a proper 'time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights'. That's a slippery slope that can only lead to tyranny, as it's not the government's or anyone else's place to determine what speech is acceptable and what isn't.

This is the central problem with the media's framing any opposition to the OWS idiots as a violation of the 1st Amendment. Opposition to OWS has nothing to do with suppressing free speech and everything to do with protecting property rights and preserving public order.

This could be a problem.

Apparantly this Marine didn’t know that any left-winger can decide to disrupt anything he or she wants to disrupt, at any time, and that’s it. There’s nothing that can be done about it.

Throw them out, and your violating their civil rights, their “right to protest.”

They can shut down any ceremony, any speech, any class, any session of a legislative body, any public office, any private office, place of business, road, highway, parking lot, you name it. Any time they want, and you’d better not interfere.

At least, that’s how I understand the current situation.

That is an interesting debate you're having with yourself. lol

Not really - I just have a little trouble with the second sentence of Hiltunen's statement. It just seems to me like he was making himself the arbiter over what constitutes free speech. IMO, he should have stopped after his first sentence.

Just my 2 cents ...

Yet your first sentence says he was justified and gives the justification which, in essence, shows the mechanics of how he rightfully did make a decision to "determine a proper 'time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights'."

Clearly he did make a decision about it so the only question is was it the right decision. You said it was.

You forgot the most famous ex-Marine, Lee Harvey Oswald. I think Clayton Lonetree is also on the list.
