Scientists plan $1.5bn laser strong enough 'to tear the fabric of space'

A laser powerful enough to tear apart the fabric of space could be built in Britain.

The major scientific project will follow in the footsteps of the Large Hadron Collider and will answer questions about the universe.

The laser will be capable of producing a beam of light so intense that it will be similar to the light the earth receives from the sun but focused on a speck smaller than a pin prick.

Scientists say it will be so powerful they will be able to boil the very fabric of space and create a vacuum.

A vacuum fizzles with mysterious particles that come in and out of existence but the phenomenon happens so fast that no-one has ever actually been able to prove it.

It is hoped the Extreme Light Infrastructure Ultra-High Field Facility would allow scientists to prove the particles are real by pulling the vacuum fabric apart.

Scientists even believe it might help them to prove whether other dimensions actually exist.

Kind of like what Walter did on the excellent tv show Fringe when he opened a window to a parallel universe?

Maybe nothing? In chapter Five of Daniel, a being reaches from a different where/when, into the where/when of the Babylonian king and writes on the wall, then pulls the arm back to the being's where/when. The Bible shows that there are other 'dimensions', other where/whens, and that there can be opened connections from one to the other. The event described in Daniel sacred the pee out of the king, but there is no indication that terrible destruction to the environment was wrought in the event.

On another note, Jesus leaving the burial clothes to exit the tomb without rolling away the stone seems to have left an imprint upon the wrappings ... if the shroud of Turin is His burial wrapping.

What’s the worst that could happen?

That's will and has, not could. Cracks will form in reality which will be projected into the past and eventually destroy the universe.

It already will has happened.

There is a solution, but it involves a time travelling alien, a 2000 year old artificial Roman centurion, and a Lady Archeologist.

Yeah, but will this laser fit on a shark’s head?

Maybe, *if* you can find a half-mile long shark that can exist comfortably in space. Yet another of those things where 'scientists' are so busy trying to answer the question "Can we do it?" that they never bother to even *ask* the question "Should we do it?"

The mind boggles...

Yea, nothing is going to go wrong with this plan.

My CCW class comes to mind, the ‘You are responsible for every round that is fired from your weapon, where it hits.’ The arrogance of firing into ‘anything/something/nothing’ is astonishing. Why do Brits allow this sort of madness?
