Mom, keep most of the silver dollars we got as gifts.A few of them were Morgans too.
After moms death we portioned them out.I got two Morgans.

My nephew always stops in to see me on Halloween Night. Last year I gave him a Christmas Pudding with a container of hard sause.
The year before that I gave him a tin of spotted dick.
This year I have a can of sardines for him.

In my neighborhood, the cute little kids are usually done by 7:30 pm. I turn out the lights and don’t answer after that... not in this neighborhood, no way.

Empowered Freepers are in charge of their door at Halloween.
You can choose to provide candy (to tykes, to responsible teens who are chaperoning them) or not provide candy (anyone not in costume or in offensive costume). One test is to ask them what their costume is... ask the Guy Faulkes garbed ones what they know about Guy Faulkes — that he tried to destroy the power of central government.
Generally, we turn on the porch light at 6:00, greet the tykes & middle-schoolers, then turn the light off at 8:00 before the sullen high-schoolers come around.
This is just a practical application of “liberty”. You choose to make and enforce the rules on your property.
