Five Reasons You Need To See 'Captain America: The First Avenger'
MTV ^

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is the last of the big four Avengers to throw himself at the big-screen before next summer's major Marvel Studios event, and he doesn't disappoint. If you were worried about how the star-spangled superhero would translate from paneled page to live-action (especially after that '90s-movie-that-must-not-be-referenced-again), worry no more: the movie is great and absolutely worth the wait.

I just came back from the theater.
Captain America is a phenomenal movie that any FReeper would love!
To: Erik Latranyi
They won’t even call it by that title in many countries, right?

I just wish they would stop doing remakes and nerdy comic movies.
But, this one sounds good from what I’ve heard.

Just a couple, that doesn’t bother me unless they edit the movie which I don’t think they do. Besides, I think a lot of it may have to do with with translating it and not trying to be politicaly correct

While I might be persuaded to trust a Freeper’s review, I just cannot bring myself to give web hits to MTV anything - as one of the most ungodly and horrible influences on society today. Their opinion is about worthless to me - and I am instinctively led to think the opposite of their views.
I would much rather a Freeper write up a vanity review of the film.

The movie trailer looks good except I’m not sure why he wears a mask since apparently everyone knows who he is.

Amen. But you have to realize that Hollywood has almost zero creativity these days. They haven't had an original idea in a very long time so they rely on old themes (old TV Shows, Comic Books, Movie Remakes) and new special effects technology. Not that I have anything against technology but how about some fresh ideas. There is just one disaster movie after another. And is there just one person out there who can write a decent screenplay?
No Hollywood today is nothing more than a *rap factory.

My wife and I just saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of nice Marvel Universe touches. I especially liked the Human Torch cameo and the presence of the Howlers (of course, they had to be without Fury for obvious reasons). And if you go see it, if you haven’t learned by now, make sure to stay past the end of the closing credits. Big payoff this time.

There was a big contract that Marvel had with movie production companies in regards to the character licences, where if at the end of FY2012 the companies had not made a feature-length film they would lose their rights to the character license. That's the primary reason for the spree of Marvel Comics movies from 2010 to the end of FY2012. DC has been hopping on the bandwagon in the hopes of competition for the market share.

I just wish they would stop doing remakes and nerdy comic movies. The Marvel Universe is the least nerdy. The characters have real human flaws and face life's hardships like anyone else.
Spiderman is the best for this as he is hated by the public (thanks to a vindictive and jealous news media), he has trouble paying the rent and always has time management issues between doing what is right and what he wants to do.
It is not nerdy at all.
To: GeronL
The last I saw there were only 3 or 4 countries that rejected the name. Most of the world isn’t as uptight as the PC people like to pretend.

They wont even call it by that title in many countries, right? Not true. It will be called Captain America almost everywhere now. That was a rumor while the movie was still in production.
If you go see it, you will realize that they could never sanitize the pro-American songs, themes and visuals.

My 8 year old son came with me and he is just raving about how great it was and how great Captain America is.I've always told my 7 year old that Captain America is the least powerful of all the superheroes, but he is the best fighter because he always does the right thing and uses the most powerful weapon a person can have --- his brain.
That came out in the movie very well and reinforced it for my son. He is now really into Captain America as well.
To: Erik Latranyi

Russia, the Ukraine and South Korea dropped ‘Captain America’ and just called it ‘First Avenger.”
To: Erik Latranyi
If you go see it, you will realize that they could never sanitize the pro-American songs, themes and visuals. If they did they would have to rename it "Hydra: The Story of Red Skull" and it would be about 15 minutes long.

I’ve been processing pickles, too. And tomatoes, yellow squash and okra. This is our first year canning. So far, so good. What we’ve eaten so far hasn’t killed us. We don’t see many movies at all, but I’m waiting to hear about “Cowboys and Aliens”.

I’m working on some 9-day icicle sweet pickles. A lot of trouble, but they smell wonderful! (I’m on day 6)
Cowboys & Aliens looks good, but not nearly as clean as Captain America. I was just so impressed with it.

We’ve been making garlic/dill, bread and butter, and kosher dills, using the water bath method. I made some pickles that you make by the quart and put in a sunny window. They look good. I haven’t tasted them yet.
Are you fermenting in a crock? I remember my parents making pickles in crocks, but since we’re so new at this. We’ve pickled okra and used the same recipe for yellow squash spears. We’ve also frozen a bunch of yellow squash. The okra that doesn’t get pickled gets eaten. Yumm!
I’m a singer/songwriter and LOVE bluegrass and bluegrassers. They tend to be a great bunch of people. We play some bluegrass in our band, but not enough for the bluegrassers. We do a lot of different styles of music. However, I’m still a bluegrassgrl at heart (from Texas and AZ, not Kentucky).

I went and saw Captain America at the midnight showing Thursday night and thought it was excellent. There were a few minor alterations, mainly to streamline the story, but they mostly stuck to continuity.
They even had the Howling Commandoes involved. Neal McDonough (Lt. Bucky Compton in "Band of Brothers") plays Dum-Dum Dugan and they even have him wearing the bowler with sergeant's stripes on it.
When you go, make sure and stay through the credits. You'll be sorry if you don't.

I dug through some of my old comic books and realized that Marvel had done the comic book adaptations for the Indiana Jones movies... so it's possible that it's canon. :)
