“I believe it. I don’t mind either, as long as they are not black widows or brown reculses. Cute little jumping spiders I do not mind. “

Ditto, here. I absolutely love jumpers, especially the short, chubby ones. We rarely, if ever, kill spiders except for black widows. Sometimes we will escort a spider outside, but usually leave them be. The big Wolf spiders in the garage and crawl space are impressive. We used to have quite a few big orb-weavers out on the porch but not much in the last few years. You get used to ducking under their big webs and it’s fun to throw bugs in there and watch.

The other night I found what I think is a grass spider in the garage addition. The legs spanned about 2”, maybe more. Nice milk chocolate and mocha stripes.

I hope i don’t get nightmares from those pictures. I agree with the poster up above. I hate hate hate hate hate BW spiders. Once I see one I’m on a vendetta to kill it, and sometimes, even when I mash them they survive. They are hard to kill.

What is a mud dauber?

We have lots of Black Widow spiders in So Cal. Fortunatetly they are distinct and easy to ID because of their round shape.

I let most other spiders live, especially Wolf spiders and Orb Weavers, which spin beautiful webs and eliminate most other bugs.

They look kind of like wasps, but they have a long, narrow waist, and build mud nests instead of paper.

I had to take my yellow lab, Patsy, to the vet yesterday. Both of her ear flaps were swollen. Doc said it was some sort of allergic reaction, possibly stung by bee or bitten by spiders.

They are still a little swollen but nothing like yesterday. The vet actually called Patsy, Dumbo when he saw her.

Almost every word in your second paragraph goes for us too. And yes, it is so fun to throw bug into a spider web and watch the results. :-)

I DO leave the really tiny spiders that make a home in my house windows

That reminds me when I was a teenager, and living at home my parents, we would always have dinner in the dinning room. In the center of our table we had 2 sets of candle sticks with candles in them, and there was a little spider who had taken up residence on one of the candles. He started to weave a web which stretched from one of the candles to the other set which was about two feet away. He provided our dinner entertainment for a long time. Unfortunately we could never light the candles, but it was worth it.

Not to inflict any pain on the family, but my immediately thought was he was probably passed out drunk.

That would explain nineteen bites.

Had one in my garage the other day. Hate em.

Here in FL, we’ve actually had to postpone the first day of school because they’ve infested schools.
