Moving will only cause another Detroit. We have to stop being refugees in our own country. These places are hell holes because the people have been voting for liberals for so long. The LBJ welfare policies that the Minnesotans have long supported has attracted this human debris to the area and the liberal politicians and judges that the useless liberals have voted for protect the criminal especially the poor Amish criminals.

Intrauterine devices are a good way of keeping the numbers down. Contraception for idiots.

What would be a good self defense form for an 8 year old girl?

As an alternative to outlawing single motherhood (excepting only widows, and the legally divorced)? Although I am for taking the babies away from baby-moms, or forcing those single moms to live in supervised impounds I think forcing any medical procedure on a person is unacceptable.

By healthy presumption based on human history, a single mom raising a child is a form of abuse, and ends up raising a child that is a danger and cost to all. Yes, some percentage turn out okay, or even great. But the great majority is bound for prison and also for poverty, just for being born to single moms.

I think the major draw to the unwed teen mom is her own taxpayer funded apartment. What teenager wouldn’t want to be on her own without a financial worry in the world. If they had to stay home with their mothers it would take away alot of the glamour away from it.

I caught a bit of the MTV show teenage moms. The teen mom was talking to her mother explaing how happy she was that she was finally getting her own place since she has gone to the government and they had approved her own apartment. BINGO!! If there was one thing that we could cut back on it would be subsized housing to unwed mothers.

That’s true, they also get extra money and stuff for each new child. Plus they get a lot of general social commendation for being single moms, such as “how tough you have it”, “what a wonderful child”, “you’re so strong to be able to raise these kids on your own”.

That lasts until the kids reach about 8 or 9 or so. Or until a kid gets really sick with something that lasts awhile. THEN the eyes open and the future is clear and terrifying. The reaction? Becoming the ever-victim.

I like the supervised impound idea. Take away the freedom and fun and you will see the girls start telling the Romeos to get lost. Ghetto males are the most spoiled creatures on the planet. Make as many babies as you want and don’t worry about taking any responsiblity. You can’t tell me that this was not planned back in the sixties to create a huge feral dangerous underclass. The better to take down the evil capitalist USA. It is so obvious now.

Wow, that is quite the hard question. The best answer I could give would be that it depends on what you, as the parent, wants.

1) If it is something for extracurricular activity, then basically anything will do (especially McDojos). McDojos can be great when it comes to having a place for your kid to go to after school or over the weekend (even though the self defense aspect is almost zero). There are a lot of McDojo Karate/TKd/GungFu schools all over America (easy way of telling is 12 year olds with black belts).

2) Now, if you want something that can be used for extracurricular stuff, but at the same time teach something, a proper traditional martial art taught by someone who is not just after your money, would be good. There might also be some good self-defense applications there, and the kid would learn some discipline to supplement what you are teaching at home. There are quite a good number of traditional martial arts schools in the US that span the range from Karate/GungFu etc.

3) However, if it is actual self-defense (reality based) that you are looking for, then there are stuff like Krav Maga. Many Krav Maga schools now have KM for kids and KM for women. Basically the same mindset as the 'male adult' stuff, but without some applications that may be best done by an adult male. However, one of the greatest strengths of Krav Maga (and similar Israeli systems like Kapap and Hagannah) is the mind-set ...the fact that being aware of your surroundings is emphasized, and one is taught to 'go hard' when necessary. That alone is better than even the techniques, because most people in actual situations tend to freeze. Even if you carry a gun, it is good to know a reality-based system. Anyways, there is KM for kids, which can be quite good for an 8 year old girl (and teaches some things that MAY give her a far better chance in 6 months than she would get in 6 years at a McDojo 'kirite' class). There are other reality-based self-defense systems (e.g. some filipino systems are good, and so is jeet kune do), but the good thing about Krav Maga is it is very simple (no fancy moves until one gets to advanced levels), and there are things that can actually work on the street (unlike a lot of fancy kicks and telegraphed punches in some arts). If it was up to me I would look into Krav Maga for kids, then as she gets older KM for women. I am assuming you are in the US, so you can check out the Krav Maga Association of America (led by a chap called Darren Levine). They should have a list of schools in your area. BTW, just for disclosure purposes, I am not associated with them, I am not a KM teacher, just a chap who in his spare time has done different martial arts since I was in grade school. Thus YMMV, but if I had a daughter I would rather she learned something that MAY help her rather than something that would probably get her hurt.

Most welcome, and all the best sir/maam. By the way, an important component (probably the most important) is to ensure that your child develops and maintains situational awareness. You'd be surprised how many bad situations can simply be avoided ...e.g. not being in certain places at certain times, when she is older and goes out not to trust a guy just because he has a nice smile and wants to take her alone for a drive-in, knowledge of how many date rapes are acquantaince rapes, being cognizant of never leaving your drink unattended, always having the number of a cab driver you know, not going out alone to a strange party without at least two trusted friends, etc etc. One can avoid 95% of bad situations simply by not getting into them(I've made up the figure but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case).

Then the next step is to have a confident demeanor ...most perps (like most natural predators) prefer to prey on the weak and hapless. Given a choice between attacking a (say) 16 yr old who seems to have her wits about, is walking in a confident manner, and seems aware of her surroundings; or attacking another 16 yr old across the street who seems slightly intoxicated, is walking about looking like she's scared the sky will fall on her, and has her ears blocked by her iPod earbuds ....the VAST majority of perps will attack the latter person. A lot of victims 'advertise' themselves as such. It is like a lot of kids who get bullied ...many of them are (virtually) carrying about an invisible sign saying 'bully me' by the way they walk, how they appear vulnerable, etc. Most bullies will not pick on someone who appears confident, and in the same way most perps would rather pick on someone who seems willing to play the role of a victim rather than someone who seems to be confident.

Third point comes the techniques ....because even if you are situationally aware, and even though you exude confidence, sometimes trouble will still come for you. Maybe an ex-boyfriend who is not particularly happy that your daughter doesn't want to date losers. That is where the technique comes in ...something that has a chance of giving the user a real chance of survival. For instance if someone is trying to force you inside a car ...most people who get in do not survive (actually it is better to even run away than get in the car, even if the person has a gun ....he may decide not to shoot, or he may shoot and miss, or he may shoot and hit a non-vital part ...however, if you get inside the car, you are most probably dead). Now, if someone is trying to force her inside a car, she may not have mace/pepper spray (and mace doesn't work as well as fingers jabbed in the eyes ...you can deal with the legal problems later, but the situation would need to be dealt with immediately), and she may not have a gun (and even if she has it she may not access it) ....however a hard jab at the throat may give her the vital seconds needed to run away and draw attention. It gives a chance, which in such a situation is worth gold. Anyways, the first thing is always having situational awareness (too many people simply just move about without even knowing who is next to them, leaving their drinks around, going to strange places with stranger people, walking down dark streets listening to blaring music on their earphones, etc etc). The next is confidence ...a coyote would rather go for the sickly looking puppy rather than the dog with the glossy coat and confident demeanor. Same applies to perps - it is better to attack the Steve Urkell nerd lookalike rather than the person who seems to have a purpose in what she is doing. Finally, the techniques are simply to have some sort of a response in case the first two do not work, and in most cases you will never have to use your technique.

BTW if you want to do some light reading check out a very nice book called 'The Gift of Fear.' Most people simply ignore the warning signs until it is too late. The same author of The Gift of Fear wrote another book where he studied high profile assassinations, and even there realized a couple of seconds before the attack there was a good level of signalling. Open eyes, in many cases, will avoid closed fists (hmmmm ....actually that sounds nice hahahahaha). Have a blessed day.

No one here voted for him,
and this “mom” probably is of the opinion that it is the racist opposition to 0bama that is fueling the anger that these poor unfortunate oppressed youth are feeling.

Execellent! I am going to write down this advice and keep it. In some parts of your posts you sound like my old country mother who kept a close eye on me and thank G-d nothing awful ever happened to me. I think it is very important to stay sober, especially for girls because a drunken women (besides being very unfeminine and unatractive) is putting herself in a very vulnerable situation. It has always angered me to hear the crazy feminists tell women that they can act anyway they want. You cannot deny the reality that women are more vulnerable to attack in certain situations. Do you remember the murder of a young woman who was out bar hopping in NYC a few years back? She had just gotten out of a bar, was drunk but refused to take a taxi back home with her friend. Instead she walked down the darkened streets of Manhattan at 3 in the morning ending up at still another bar where she disappeared. She was later found murdered by a guy who worked at the second bar. What was ironic about this was that she was a major in criminology. If anyone should have understood the danger of what she did, it should have been her. But this young woman was feeling 10 feet tall and bullet proof due to all the alcohol and all the years of feminist indoctrination. She did not want to face the reality that women are more vulnerable.
