the last Maunder Minimum lasted 70 years (1645-1715). Humanity pulled through just fine.

A lot less humanity floating around back then.
That humanity could fend for itself and tough it out maybe a little better than us.
We do have better technology on our side however.

“This is good for a political argument. This is very, *very* bad for humanity.”

LW, you ruined my fun - I was about to point out, not so bad.

As many as 10K humans survived the last ice age. Dunno what the population was when it started. Or what technology existed. Think your celphone will survive a few thousand years under two miles of moving ice?

I presume more than 10k humans. On the entire planet.

I wonder if this is what the NASA Chief was talking about when he told his people to be prepared for emergencies in their personal lives?

A lot less humanity floating around back then.

And their daily way of life required skills and a degree of self reliance that are almost unknown in the USA today outside of rural America and the Prepper/Survivalist movements.

Think about the helplessness and utter stupidity on display in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit.

I read the same info. It mentioned the center of mass of the solar system affecting the sun’s orbital movement or wobble. It correlated very well with solar cycle intensity. The current and next cycles will have almost no wobble. The last time that happened was during the Dalton minimum.

Interesting comment from NASA. I had not seen that news release. I will have to search for a link.

Heck, my power went out for an hour yesterday and I was dead in the water. A minor thing like that really drives home how unprepared I am to deal with *anything*.

Second thought, a nice new wool sweater couldn't hurt, either. Easy for you to say from up there in the frozen tundra. It was 62 in Benderville yesterday and over the hill in Redding it was 97 where Mrs Bender and some family members are headed today.

Strange coincidence: several of my over the hill friends & relatives live in Redding...but I wouldn’t consider any of them ‘hot’.
