I was wondering about the velcro, after seeing some Army-types in various airports. I wanted to ask but decided not to.
To: PROCON
Yup. Come to think of it, it must have been long before 2006 because we were not permitted to roll them up when OIF started either. The rationale was that you will perspire and wet your blouse, including the sleeves and it will keep you cooler. I never wore ACU’s in Iraq, I wore DCU’s and there actually is some truth to it. The material for the DCU’s was also thinner than “summer weight” BDU’s
The other reason in the ME was the sun was so intense, it would burn you pretty badly. We always came back with “DCU tans”. Hands very dark and white arms. It was a sight to see! LOL

Technically, you can’t roll your sleeves up and you can’t take your top off either.

You’d think it would be cheaper to go with one supplier to outfit all those who wear cammies.
To: Joe 6-pack
That would make far too much sense. Remember, we are dealing wtih the government here. Stupid is as stupid does.

We never went shirtless when I was in-country - but we were out in the bush one day and some moron put on a white t-shirt. The platoon sergeant went berserk.
I have no problem with my Army Bros wearing Marine Camo's - while you're at it - why not try yellow leggings?

I guess fatique uniforms have evolved over the last 40 years to accomodate the ME weather our troops fight in.

I can imagine, LOL!

Your jarhead guys probably used the small, white TP packs that came with the C-Rats, LOL, bury it deep!

You are indeed correct, but back in the CP in July and August when it is 140º out, no one really pushed the “keep your blouse on” rule. But you always still had to wear your boonie hat. All E-5’s and above were pretty much expected to stay in full uniform though.

At DaNang on the ground or where ever we were sent, we wore what the Marines wore. While we were in the air, both Navy and Marines wore the same Nomex flight suit. And most of us wore a St. Christopher's medallion on our dog tag chain.

All in good fun. The Navy keeps Marines on board ship so the sailors have someone to dance with when the USO comes on board......

My brother in law (or now ex brother in law) was a marine. Now he use to say that once you were a marine you were always a marine. As a kid this confused me, that is the logic of it.
This guy use to say that ARMY stood for Ain't Ready for Marines Yet. But other times he would confess that the Army had elite groups like the 82, 101, and Rangers who were first rate. He just thought the average Leatherneck was a bit more elite than the average GI. I wasn't in either so I'm no authority but I enjoy listening to the back and forth.

Agreed...gimme a gun that fires reliably, food that sustains me and boots that get me from here to there and I care not who or where they come from....I am a little bitter about the Army coming up with this hoo-hah thing...any Jarhead knows your war face can only be accompanied by ooooo-rah!
