Is it a problem that individual sailors are seen against the backdrop of a MASSIVE ship?
I was thinking that the worse threat to individuals was falling overboard, so why not have a uniform that would aid in rescue? Of course, Coast Guard Orange would be a bit too much.
If you fall overboard in the NWU, the color won't help in locating you. However, if you don't have a life jacket, you'll probably drown before you get picked up. At least the CO2 life jackets are orange (and it really clashes with the NWU colors). The NWU really does sucketh.
Sounds reasonable to this non-seafaring man.
I did have one squid comment that the new pattern would hide grease stains.
Sidebar: I still think that someone’s brother-in-law was the main beneficiary of this uniform switch, but I've no proof.
Not that I want to start a pissing contest but Marines also earn those badges. I’ve known plenty of Marine Rangers. The only difference is we don’t wear them because being a Marine is enough. Keep your tabs. We take pride in being Marines first. Everything else is secondary.
