Dad bids farewell to school year with a bang

AMERICAN FORK -- No matter how cool a teenager's mom and dad may be, few teens get through high school without their parents embarrassing them.

But an American Fork teen has had to put up with his dad embarrassing him the entire school year.

There's not much worse for a high school student than having your dad wave at you as you get on the school bus every morning. Just ask Rain Price, who is thrilled the school year is finally over.

That's because his dad is there to bid him farewell every morning, but he's taken the embarrassment factor to a new level -- he's always wearing a crazy costume.

"When he did it the first day I was in shock," Rain said. "It's my first day of sophomore year."

The idea caught on for Dale Price and he wore a costume to wave at the bus all year long.

It is a parents job to embarrass their child. Yelling at sports events, etc.

Speaking of child humiliation, Dave Barry writes about arriving to pick up his son from high school one day driving the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile.

The kid may be mortified now by dad's behavior, but in the future, the kid will treasure these memories.

I wouldn't be surprised if the teen does the same thing when he becomes the father to a teen.

Nice tradition starting here.

Dale Price wore 170 costumes -- no repeats -- to wave at his son's school bus throughout the school year.

The single most effective way to discipline your children -- especially if they are teenagers, is not lectures, not grounding them, nor taking away their electronic devices or phones.

Threaten to sing in front of them. Or, in extreme cases, in front of their friends.

It NEVER fails.

Cheers!

Hehe. I remember one morning runnng after my daughter’s bus wearing only pants and suspenders so I could give her money for the after-school dance. Boy was she embarassed! The bus driver thought I was giving a tip.

I have a friend whose daughter begged for a thong (because the other girls were wearing them). The pestering continued till the point that my Mom-friend said, “Here’s the deal. You can wear a thong ONLY if I wear one and I pick you up everyday. I’ll walk to your school wearing a top and thong only”. Needless to say, the girl re-thought her idea. I asked my Mom-friend what would have happened if the daughter said “deal”. She said “then all of her little friends would have seen me and my fat butt cheeks”. LOL!

Clearly a VERY insecure parent. Very weird behavior especially since the child is in high school. At first, I thought the child was going to be in like 2nd grade or something. The guy needs serious psychological help.
