Your before & after sat photos have the same link as the moment tsunami hit. We need the real sat photo link.

Thank you, cool software. It seems to be similar to Real video that allows you to capture video, but it is good to have more then one program top do a chore in case one has problems.

Point to remember is that most buildings are pretty closed up above the ground floor (especially in winter), and the rising water will trap the air inside and lift the building like a cork. Most buildings, unless they're located in tornado/hurricane areas, are not built to be tied down to the ground they stand on. You can see some of that in the videos of the tsunami; here's a direct link to the 6+ minute YouTube: I sure hope and pray those folks at 6:15 got spared.

Apart from the awesome power of 8-10’ of surging water, did anyone else marvel at how watertight the Japanese cars are?

That was the very first odd thing I noticed. Though I would assume it's not odd or unusual, or that their cars are more airtight than anyone else's.

I assume that it's just that we haven't had that many opportunities to videotape a 10-30 foot wall of water, miles upon miles long, sweeping over 6 miles inland before.

ANYWAY, I have heard(read) many people noting it here on on F.R. ever since the first footage on Thursday/Friday (March 11, in Japan though I believe it was the 10th, still, here in the US)

Many are just sitting there - not really clasped to anything: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_engineering_structures#Combined_vibration_control_solution

Pretty cool stuff - but not perfect. Still, I bet these designs saved many people today. -------------------------------

Japanese tech that treats structures as sailboats or ferries, more or less, that.... worked.

That is an awe inducing video. The power of the water is so frightening. It is as if you are right there.

I keep wondering what happened to the driver of the white Toyota Van that rounded the corner just a minute or so before the waters came rushing up the streets....

I agree with you. We may never know, but my prayers are they had a quick exit to higher ground and survived.

Late post, but I have also been constantly wondering what happened to that driver. Working out all sorts of permutations and probabilities ...was the road straight (in which case if he floored the vehicle he may have had a chance to get out ...although it would have had to be straight for at least 6 miles considering how far inland the tsunami went), was the road curved (meaning that his attempt to escape was futile, since, considering the way the tsunami was wide, he would basically have been driving to a different section of the watery beast), what would I have done in the same situation (probably drive, because at that point the water was just a slight trickle and I may have thought I could outrun it ...with foresight, knowing just how high the water would become, the best option would have been to exit the vehicle and climb that hill ....but the driver didn't have the fortune of knowing just how high and fast the water would be).

I simply hope he/she/they survived.

Another question would be the people in the houses ....noticing that the very tail end of the video shows people standing on near-inundated roofs makes me wonder if the houses being washed like flotsam also had people.

All in all, never take anything for granted. Always tell your loved ones you love them, your wronged ones sorry, your soul in check, etc etc etc because when your day comes it may come in a manner that is swift and sure and strong.

God bless.
