I had a bad nose bleed once. I mean running so fast it was a stream not a drip. I was a couple of hours away (on foot) from the nearest doc and I remembered from my boxing days that we would occationally stop a bad cut with Qtip and bleach.
Well, I did not have a Qtip but I did have a Clorox wipe.
[I’ll let you figure out the rest of the story but it ends with ... yes the nose bleed stopped]
There are far greater pieces of shiite laptops out there besides Dell. I've owned 7 of them and have yet to have any of them crash or die.
I'm convinced that it doesn't much matter what brand of laptop one owns. If it isn't maintained properly and treated right, it is doomed. That is to say, the human factor is the greatest threat to a laptop.

Bump that. A simple boot-up with a knoppix disk, if nothing else, would go a long way toward diagnostics.
