Ok. As I said, I’m sure the Japanese have many virtues,
but it kinda makes you wonder what kind of society could have spawned the monsters who committed those atrocities.

I just seems a few of us are going overboard in extolling the virtues of the Japanese culture.

IMHO, there is still no greater people than Americans.

Hands on hips - head wagging back and forth:

“I want my DEBIT card!”

police corruption is not unknown in Japan, nor is it widespread, though. but looting (!!) by them during a major natural disaster would be abso-frikken-lutly unfathomable here in Japan.

I’ve got a hunch that they would gladly take a day or two of looting in exchange for getting their nuclear reactors under control.

If we ever expect people to stow it about what we “owe them” for slavery, we might want to set the example and stow it on this.

The Japanese should not be held up as superior to the American people.
The American people, as a whole, are the most greatest people in the world.

I love America - USA!!!... and extol the virtues of this country, but this country is made up of people from all around the world. We are unique in that we are a melting pot of the world. Being a cauldron of so many diverse peoples is challenging enough... yet in contemporary times, liberals have undermined that with multiculturalism which encourages everyone to love where they came from instead of where they are. This is a sign of weakness we see in America today - the looting, the envy of others, the lack of personal responsibility.

Japan does not have these same problems as they are a more homogeneous society with strong ties to their religious beliefs (Buddhism, Shintoism). The horrors committed in WWII by Japan were the aberration of allegiance to an emperor. The people of Japan respect authority and prior generations followed that authority into the abyss. The Japanese people we see today still have inherent respect for authority, order, pride in family - but are not trying to kamikaze bomb you out of existence.

The US helped to rebuild Japan after the war, I think it was the most selfless thing any nation on this earth has done. Americans should be proud of the positive, wonderful things we do. We rebuild, not destroy. We help, not shun. We do care. American exceptionalism???... despite the rumors of it's demise, it lives on... big time.

Sadly..like it or not.. the Japanese people are reacting to a crisis much better than US citizens/residents did during Katrina. Not easy to swallow the truth.

Not the point I was making. If that’s really what you took away from it, then I suppose I need to learn to write better.
