Exclusive: Dual Hobbit Film Titles Revealed?

March 2nd, 2011 by Calisuri | Discuss | 6 Comments and 66 Reactions

Ringer Spy Mr. Underbelly monitors movie titles that are registered by major film studios. Mr. Underbelly noticed that New Line has recently registered the following two film titles:

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

and…

The Hobbit: An/The Unexpected Journey

This is the first indication of what the ‘official’ titles will be of the two Hobbit films. What are your thoughts? Remember, this is not confirmed officially, but it is a relatively good indication of what the two film titles could be. Share your thoughts in our forum, comments and on Facebook!

There and Back Again is good.
An/The Unexpected Journey is a little lame but it won’t stop me from seeing it.

My understanding was that the Hobbit was going to be split into 2 films. Maybe the 2nd title is for the second film?

The Unexpected Journey sounds like the first film, while There and Back Again sounds like the second film.

Either way is better than part 1 & part 2.

Sauron is in the Oval Office!!!!

Only if you're talking about Valerie Jarrett. Zero doesn't have the brains to be Sauron.

Those would be my guesses, though we shall see exactly where they split up the films, and how closely they will follow the book.

I'm waiting for the Gollum films to come out.

Part 1: Nassssty evil thieving hobbitses!

Part 2: Gollum saves Middle Earth

There and Back Again is faithful to Tolkien’s full title, at least as penned by Bilbo Baggins. If there is no driving reason to do otherwise, I always prefer staying close to the original material.

My Diary.

My Unexpected Journey.

There and Back Again. And
What Happened After.

Adventures of Five Hobbits.

The Tale of the Great Ring, compiled by Bilbo Baggins from his own observations and the accounts of his friends.

What we did in the War of the Ring.

THE DOWNFALL OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS
AND THE RETURN OF THE KING
(as seen by the Little People; being the memoirs of Bilbo and Frodo of the Shire, supplemented by the accounts of their friends and the learning of the Wise.)

So is “My Unexpected Journey”, a change to “An Unexpected Journey” or whatever still seems to hew close to the original!

I guess “Valley of the Trolls” and “Smaug Wars” were already taken?

Congratulations. For suggesting these two additional films you are Andy Serkis's new best friend.
