SEATTLE, - Some administrators and faculty members at Seattle's University of Washington said they are seeking to ban "Humans Vs. Zombies Tag" on campus.
Professor Mary Callahan said the game came to her attention after she spotted a student "dressed in combat fatigues, carrying a dark (toy) rifle strapped over his shoulder, and perched in the window of the fourth floor stairwell of Thomson Hall," KING-TV, Seattle, reported Thursday.
"I don't doubt that this game has its social, sporting and strategic appeal, but I believe it should be played elsewhere ... I don't like walking around campus amongst make-believe assassins sneaking around with toy guns, looking to take out targets," Callahan said.
Organizers of registered student group "HVZT" said the student wasn't abiding by the rules and would have been kicked out if spotted by other players.
"He was still essentially playing the game while in an indoor area, and that is absolutely against our rules," said Sean Mack, game overseer.
Mack said the game is played only outside and lasts for one week each quarter. He said the game begins with one or two zombies who recruit others by tagging them outdoors during the week. The human players can stun the undead for 15 minutes with foam darts or rolled-up socks.
Mack said the group is talking to school leaders about possible modifications to the game, including banning foam dart guns.
It provides some basic level of training for the coming war. The oppressing class doesn’t like it — it makes them nervous.
Seattle ping. What a fun place!
My fear on this campus would be mistaken identity... I’m quite sure I bear a striking resemblance to a zombie before I’ve had morning coffee.
yeah...that’s about right. except maybe less blood and she looks helluva lot more animated than i do before coffee. the OMG WHAT AM I DOING look is spot on, tho. ;P
I agree with ClearCase: it's good that these kids are getting a little training for the upcoming hot civil war.
They’re scared of a nerf gun?
Yeah! On the ship it’s called Zombie Tag and we play underway with nerf guns. There’s even an app for something similar which takes your GPS position and puts ‘zombies’ all over a map of your area..point being to avoid them. Makes a run through downtown Seattle much more entertaining.
Watch for bicyclists!
We played something like it when I was in high school and college, only without the undead factor. Iirc, the high school admin didn’t like it, but they couldn’t stop it, either.
Say WA? Evergreen State ping
