Sarah Palin's Reading List: C.S. Lewis, Dean Karnazes, Newsmax, Wall Street Journal
ABC News ^ | 12/09/2010 | Lauren Sher

What newspapers do you read? It was the question that arguably did Sarah Palin the most harm during the 2008 election.

When the Republican vice presidential candidate could not name for Katie Couric which magazines or papers she regularly read that informed her worldview, it fueled the perception among voters that she was not ready for national office.

In an interview with Barbara Walters, Palin set the record straight.

"I read anything and everything that I can get my hands on as I have since I was a little girl," Palin told Walters in an interview to air tonight on ABC as part of Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2010."

So what books and newspapers currently top her reading list?

"I'm reading the best book right now -- Dean Karnazes's book about being an ultra-marathoner. I read a lot of C.S. Lewis when I want some divine inspiration...I read Newsmax and The Wall Street Journal. I read all of our local papers of course in Alaska because that's where my heart is," Palin said.

Watch "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010" TONIGHT at 10 p.m. ET

Palin has said that she was offended by Couric's question and is still irked by the media's portrayal of her.

"Because of that one episode, that one episode, that would turn an issue into what it has become over the last two years. I think that's ridiculous," Palin told Walters. "That's one of those things, where that issue…that I don't read, or that I'm not informed, it's one of those questions where I like to turn that around and ask the reporters, 'Why would it be that there is that perception that I don't read?'"

That's "something that's been pretty much ginned up by the press," Palin said.

I wonder what she said in that ellipsis. Makes it look like this article doesn’t quote her answer in full.

TO put it bluntly, while I enjoy the tabloid nature and singing to the choir “news” and opinion at Newsmax.com on occasion, I sure the heck don’t want someone carrying the nuclear football to receive even one iota of information from that crew over at Newsmax that could result in public policy!

On the contrary. Newsmax tells us what the kook fringe is thinking. It's a good idea for politicians to know what ALL of the country is thinking, not just the readers of the New York Times.

I'm sure you think that was an euridation type of response, however, I must ask you why?

So if NewsMax represents the kook-fringe, please point out what about the current list of articles presented by NewsMax qualifies for your definition kookiness?

Please provide some detailed explanation, because as of right now, you're just throwing bombs.

http://belowthebeltway.com/2009/09/30/newsmax-sends-article-calling-for-military-coup-down-the-memory-hole/ and the FR thread... which the FR moderators kindly removed the original article at Ruddy’s request:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2351288/posts

Then you have the entire series of articles by Kenneth Timmerman going out into the theory that “Iran is planning to nuke the United States imminently” articles in 2008 also.

Again, Newsmax has it’s place... as a echo chamber deep inside the movement to manipulate the feeble... it has no use and shouldn’t be touched by someone in leadership, except to direct the manipulations, but Gov. Palin is reading it as a freaking consumer end user!

I would put readers of the New York Times in the kook category.

So according to Babs, a Palin Presidency would be “Scary” Someone should remind Babs that Joe Biden is a heartbeat away from the Presidency..Obama is a Marxist, but Biden is a MORON..so which is the lesser of two evils

Sarah Palin has got to learn when questions are “gotcha” questions. She should answer questions like “What do you read” with......”Barbara, the American People are more concerned with what we can do to put this country back on track, get people working again, investing, lower taxes, national security, and illegal immigration. With all due respect, knowing what I read or not read is not keeping the honest hard working American up at night.”

The best you can say about Newshacks is that it’s about a half a step up from WingNutDaily.
