You can't access the internet. And it doesn't have a camera or games you can play. In fact, this new mobile phone doesn't even let you send text messages.
The designers of 'John's Phone' have created a device that has only one function: it lets you make calls.
Hailed as the world's simplest phone, it is designed to be a tongue-in-cheek 'basic backlash' by targeting users who do not want the flashy features of next-generation models.

So... ...you can’t RECEIVE calls with it? You can only MAKE them?
That is SO cool! I might be willing to pay $150 for a phone like that!
;-)
Don’t people have some old Nokia phone in their basement, that can only make and receive calls? Why would they want to buy that phone?
Oh, this is the worst-looking phone I ever saw. What, when you buy a phone like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?
Those “low tech” phones are subsidized by the various carriers.
The phone networks won’t activate an old phone like that.
I’d like to resurrect my old Motorola V300. A few features but simple, compact and of decent quality. I’d love to use it when travelling in GSM locales but forgot to get it unlocked before I left T-Mobile.
Anyone here have experience unlocking old phones?
I have a phone at home that works like this.
BUT, it doesn’t need batteries.
It can’t be stolen, as it is attached to the wall via a cord.
To activate the no-incoming call feature, I just take it off the hook.
No complicated menus. I just dial the number.
They are still available, for free mostly.
all I have is a phone....except for the camera part which I didn’t want...no internet, no QWERTY keyboard.....no nuthin’.
I like it that way...when my brother texts me, I call him.
” what do you want?? what are you texting me for?.....cut the crap, I ain’t texting you back, so stop it”
‘John’s Phone’ - do the rerprogrammed speed dial numbers include your favorite hookers?
It’s better but I still don’t like it. When I am out of touch I wish to be out of touch. I don’t have one of those things. I won’t have one.
Great idea, lousy styling.
I keep threatening to make a “just a phone”, with style being high priority.
Art is subjective. I think it is beautiful. 'course, I drive this:
I have discovered the reason people like texting: They don’t have to engage in a conversation. It is one way communication of information, with no irrelevant chit-chat. That can be a good thing, but it can also reduce the quality of relationships.
However, when you need to communicate something to someone and you have little or no time, it is a great way to do it.
Disclaimer: I send maybe two texts a week.
As I respond to this posting with my iPhone, I likely wouldn’t be interested in a “simple” phone. LOL
Free bowl af soup and a hat!
You and me both. I just make phone calls.
I text my kids all the time, usually it is the same message, “This is your Dad, pick up the phone when I call”
It must have been something before electricity.
